Alien cat-like species bearing orange fur and a hairless, rat-like pink tail, thus their Human slang name, "Ratcat". A violent species, they tend to attack before being prepared. Kzinti are not named at birth. They are typically identified by their position, until they "earn" a name. Modern Kzinti females are non-sentient, having been bred that way after many centuries. In ancient times they were sentient. Kzinti use a Base 8 numbering system, owing to their four-digit hands. Kzinti litters are almost always composed of twins, one male and one female. Some Kzinti have telepathic powers, usually of a limited nature but can be gratly enhanced by using an injection of Sthondat lymph extract, which is highly addictive and usually burns out the addict. The kzinti are a warrior-like race with a very unusual code of honor. Everything a kzin does is reflected in how much honor he has. The glory of the empire is the top priority and any action against the empire is likely to get a kzin killed. Even the king is not above the empire and may be forced to loose personal honor or his life for the empire. The next priority is the honor of a kzin's house which includes anyone of the family lines including brothers, cousins, grandparents and any other blood relative and their females. Any action against ones own house will likely get a kzin banished or killed. A kzin Who has been found dishonorable might kill himself so as not to bring his houses honor down. The final priority is a kzin's personal honor. Kzin are very agressive and when their honor is challenged, they usually choose to fight the one who challanges their honor. There are two types of battles. One is to first blood (in our rp system the first to cause the other pc to pass out or wounds a pc too deeply to fight furthur is the victor) The other is to the death and is only ever used in serious situations A male kzinti is born without a name and will have to earn a true name. When a kzin first gets a job their name is their position. (Ex a navigator's name would be Navigator) A kziniti's true name has 4 parts to it. The first name is given as a reward for an honorable deed and is usually given by a superior officer. The second name is chosen by the kzin when once again he has proven himself worthy. This second name is very personal and therefore is only shared with those very close to him. The third name signifys their full acceptance into society. They are no longer jobs but warriors with full honor. Ritt, the fourth name, is given exclusively to members of the royal family making them well respected. A kzin will attempt to do anything he can to advance his house and line in the empire. To that end, he might join a faction. A faction is supposed to be a group of allied kzin having a certain set of beliefs about what is best for the empire. However, there are often factions within factions (ex the faction for progress may think that peace and trade is the best way to progress while another group" within the progress faction may feel that "war and conquering" is the best advancement..) and a kzin may change his faction whenever he chooses. As stated before, the kzin are a very wariorlike race. They are natural killers with instincts to match. The males are very territorial and are especially agressive when it comes to females. Originally, the females were just as agile and as inteligent as males if not as strong physically. However, at some point in history, the females were genetically engineered to be docile and dumb. Their only use was for the propogation of the species. Fortunately Drak, the final king before the wormhole collapsed, had ordered the practice abandoned about ten years before the kzin were forced to abandon their homes. There are quite a few inteligent females now though there is still a moderate level of predjudice surrounding them. Note: The leader is known as the King or Patriarch. <name>'Ritt Implies that that person is part of the Patriarch's house. Sthondat To call one a stondat is an insult, it's an animal that telepaths rely on for their telepathic ability. It's also a herbivore.
