Anyone else ever wonder why jedi don't seem to be trained in unarmed combat? It would seem to stand to reason that they should have at least a basic to moderate grasp of this. I'm not saying they should be on the same level as shoalin monks but they should have training in something similar to krav magaw, don't know if that's spelled right. I realise that a lot of hand to hand would require effects on par with the matrix and that would turn SW into super action flicks in space. It's just that jedi seem to be useless in combat without their sabers. I assume this has been discussed before. So just ignore me if this topic has already been beaten to death. |

I will need to pick up my Jedi sourebooks again. There are multiple disciplines of the Jedi line. Those that use multiple forms of melee (swords, lightsabers, etc.), and those that use martial arts, aided by the force. Yes jedi don't engage in combat without a weapon very often. I was just envisioning something along the lines of Krav Magaw, a martial art developed by the israeli military for very fast and eficiant disarmament and incapacitation(a well trained person can move through a large crowd and disarm people without stopping to engage any one person for more than a few seconds). As well as I thought terra kassai was only used by a certain off shoot of the jedi that didn't use lightsabers but what do I know. |

Yes they do train in unarmed combat. The Teras Kasi os one such form of martial arts that Jedi Masters use. The only reason you never see it in the movies is that lightsabers are much more effective, and how often do Jedi have to fight without their lightsabers? I think you must have missed his flying kick to start off the hand to hand portion. He was fighting a well armored Bounty Hunter who's suit is basically a head to toe weapon. You can't blame him for the attempt to even the odds by reaching for his lightsaber. I would also suggest reading Shadows of the Empire if you haven't. Well I see everyones point. I just think that with all the time spent with their personal body and mind control excercises unarmed combat for jedi would be much more fluid. Much like modern martial arts. As for Obi-wan pwning, I don't agree he got his but kicked because he spent most of his time trying to get his saber back. |

Yeah just watch Obi-Wan take on on Jango in Episode 2. Hell even look at Obi and Anakin surviving in the Geonosis arena. The thing is that like video games, in star wars almost everyone that isn't carrying a blaster has a melee weapon. Another point is that Jedi would rather not fight and will only use their lightsaber when absolutely necessary. There far from useless in combat even without a saber, reminder, they got Force Powers aswell They'll just push/pull the weapons into there own hands or grip/lightning 'em to death And they can kick and punch aswell |
