 OMG OMG OMG mkay well heres the scoop, my folks soooo proud of the initiative me and my fiancee took to plan our wedding decided to help things so it doesnt interfere with life, by marrying in may we were cutting things dangerously close to finals. so they secretly as a surprise bought the invites we had picked bought the wedding dress i was like OMG I WANT IT but its too expensive OMG I GOT IT they also SENT OUT THE INVITES TO THE PPL WE HAD LISTED Aparently sent out B4 New Years on them was a mssg NOT TO MENTION THE DATE CHANGE so 2 days ago my folks say they dont aprove of the wedding on my birthday their reason: IT WOULD MAKE THE ONE ON VALENTINES A WASTE!!!!!! Okay, I'm 34, been married nine years, and have just a couple things to say. Marriage rules. Married people are happier, healthier and financially better off, on average, than single people the same age as they. Married people have more and better sex than single people. This is a fact. The bachelor stud you see schmoozing all the babes on TV and in the movies is a myth. They're few and far between, and the ones you do see actually go home alone far more often than you think they do. The euphoric "in love" feeling goes away. It comes back, though. Love is a commitment, not a feeling. The feeling comes and goes. Your marriage is a business partnership, whether you like it or not, so accept reality treat it as one. Make sure both of you know the books inside and out just like business partners would. There was a book called The Case for Marriage a couple years ago. The research behind it followed a bunch of married couples, some of whom said they were unhappy in their marriages. Of those who divorced, five years later only about 15% said they were then happy. Of those who toughed it out and stayed married, five years later 80% said they were happy in their marriages. There will be times when you are unhappy. There will be times when you are very unhappy. Stay married. Unless he's beating you or boinking the woman next door or something like that, you're better off staying together, no matter what the popular media tell you. Congratulations, I wish you both much of luck but I would indeed (as vasper says) stay engaged a while longer. Because marriage is serious. Ive seen someone your age getting married and it was as if she skipped a part of her life (being an animal in discos, stuff like that, getting really drunk ) Marriage is the final step to adulthood and picking up responsibilities. So id say, be sure to be absolutely ready for it before you engage in it  but of course, if you feel you are, then you should go for it again, Good luck wished to the both of you and be sure to show some pictures! _______________ ~ Honor is a fool's prize. I'm happy for you and all but if you really want opinions then I'd have to say stay engaged for a while. I was engaged at that age as well. Your going out into the world, your gonna experience new things, find new interests, and develope new habbits. The 2 of you are also gonna mature together, but also in different ways. College is a VERY different place compared to HS. You'll expereince a lot there. I guess my point is: Wait a while before you actually get married. Keep yourself open to new things. You got really luky, in my opinion its the guy thats making a mistake(no offence to u plz read on) cuz u 2 off to coledge where its very lots of new ppl. If his whole intire life till this point he didnt meet anyone he loves but u he might meet some 1 in colege. So just make sure he doesnt see any girls and study hard in coledge. May 7th is my girlfriends birthday too. She means the world to me, and if you love your boyfriend as much as i love my girlfriend then im in no doubt your doing the right thing. Pay no attention to anyone who 'rains on your parade' cause they probably dont know how you feel, and if you think your doing the right thing, then it will all work out good. (Im a trained Psychologist and counselor)Let me tell you, more marraiges break up that are based on a really long period of time spent knowing eachother before deciding on marriage. For example my girlfriends parents met at 16, were married by the time they were 18 and are still very happily married.
