there is a tool called "Gspot avi codec information" that tells you which codec you need for a .AVI file ;)

Avi files are not always the same codec. It is just an extension.
DivX, Xvid, all are .avi files, but need codecs to play.

Open google, type in "kazaa lite codec pack". Download it. Voila.

The latest release of QuickTime has support for AVIs.

Is that what you are looking for, something to play them, or something to rip video to AVIs?

I think you just need to find a Media Player that supports an AVI file.. I have the same problem.. I've tried Realone, Windows Media, and Winamp3, with no luck.. any suggestions guys?
