So, for my birthday, I went to see the new LOTR movie. I want everyone's opinion on it. I thought it was pretty good, but there were several things that disappointed me. First of all, they didn't take the witch-king's helmet off ![]() _______________ |"Evacuate? In our moment of Triumph? Quote: Denethor burning himself with a palantìr as opposed to.... jumping off a cliff??? What happened was that the whole story with the palantir was underdeveloped, so it just wouldn't be as important. I understand Jackson's ulterior motive here, which is to provide balance, but as they said, some things just don't work out. However, I believe having Denethor burn in the fire and running down the cliff of Minar Tirith was so expertly and dramatically done that it's worth it, especially when the camera pulls out, you see this huge battlefield still raging... and you realise no one even noticed Denethor falling. As for the ending, yeah too long. I think he had some trouble finding closure for this project, which is okay. After all, we saw almost ten hours of movie by the time we came to the ending, remember? I personally think it was the best movie of the year. So many powerful, emotional moments. |

The first two movies were accurate enough as movies based on books go, but the closer this got to the end, the more they skipped. They even changed some really important stuff, like ****** SPOILER ******* Denethor burning himself with a palantìr as opposed to.... jumping off a cliff??? ![]() Also changed is the very (yes, the final final final) ending, where in the book, Sam went inside and only had one kid around. Picky, ain't I? ![]() Of course, the biggest gripe (besides the outrageous accents) is the complete lack of the epilogue. The ***HUGE SPOILER*** ruin of the Shire was fairly important to the reader's final view of the characters of Merry and Pippin, but apparently the movie crew didn't have any people with anything that might be called a passing mark in an English course above grade 7. **Spoiler! Dont look---but hell, you should have seen it by now!** Well- the reason he looks so old is he is 116 by the time he gets on the boat with Lord Elrond and frodo In the Feloowship of the Ring-he's 111 BUT hes had the ring for like 50 60ish years keeping his health and appearence relatively the same from the day Bilbo picked up the ring in gollum's cave (story told in the HOBBIT) However, without the power of ring Biblo's body reverts to what would be his normal apperance for a 116 year old. _______________ What we do in life, echoes in eternity. |

*SPOILER* One thing that I didnt get, Frodo said that the journey took 13 months, about a year. Later, he tells sam that its been 4 years to the day that he got that wound, and it hasnt healed (or something like that). So thats like 4 or 5 years, right? But Bilbo in the first movie didnt look too old, and now, 4 or 5 years later, he looks ancient. I havnt read the LOTR books, so I might be missing something here. _______________ if at first you dont succeed, try and try again. if you still dont succeed, youve just wasted a whole lot of time trying something you just cant do ![]() |

well it's been a while since I read it. It was either Merry or Pippin, but one of them dies at Brandywine (or is it Buckland???) edit: that's why one of them would be dead, Jacen, not at Pellennor, but when they return. I remember Merry and Pippin getting some honor for fighting the ruffians, and I think one of them gets killed too _______________ |"Evacuate? In our moment of Triumph? Aye, the ending could have been so much better. They also cut out the part where Gandulf confronted Saurmon at his tower.
