WINDOWS 2000/NT SOURCE LEAKED

Wether it is a hoax is unsure yet, but there are source code files of a couple of hundreds of MB's on the internet.

I saw a few comments by developers already, and they say it looks pretty real.

All related sites seem to be under extremely heavy load, and unreachable.

The article:
http://www.neowin.net/comments.php?id=17509&category=main

If this is a true, expect hell to break out. Dozens of virusses, and a drastic change in MS.

Who cares about M$'s economy? As a matter of fact, who cares about M$? :P :D

And open source doesn't necessarily mean virus parade ;) Linux is open sourse  Open Source means better OS cuz MANY MANY MANY ppl can work on it and make better programs for it cuz they know how it works ;)

BTW: There's no reason to care about when LongHorn is going to be released orion ;) IMHO it's gonna be as bad (or in the same low level) as all the other Windows's are. It might be better but I don't think there will be a dramatic change. I don't know much about longhorn (what it's like and stuff) so that's only guessing.

/me comes out of his corner

I TOLD YOU SOO!!!!!

VIVA LA OPEN SOURCE!!!!

/me parades around with linux shirt and linux flag

Actually from what i read from the /. replies and neowin the source that was leaked contains the WinSock source, parts of the IE source, and some parts of the nt kernel. which can be very bad. Even though the 2k source was from Serivce Pack one. I would expcet some very nasty virus' in the near future.

And to be serious this is very bad, it could set Microsoft back on the lonhorn release or any other release and could cause economy issues...i hate hackers, even more than i dispise microsoft

Wow. This could have a HUGE impact on the whole MS industry. Possibly even the economy (as said by Aron).

The leaked source is about 650 mbs. The entire Win2000 source code pack is about 20 gigs.
It is only a relatively small amount, but can still cause some major problems.

IMHO Windows Millenium is the worst platform ever. It's so unstable and incompatible with so much hardware. I dread Millenium.

Actually I'm not sure if it is. However, Aron didn't mean to say it was. It was just a joke piece of code meant to be funny :)

Please refrain from posting bits of the source code here. That gets us in mucho trouble. Like "big guards with shotguns"* kind of trouble. If this is true then expect to see the end of the world. I can hear all the "I told you so's" coming from the OSS nerds in the corner. :)

Microsoft already made an official comment, but they seem to have removed it.

It was here: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2004/Feb04/02-12windowssource.asp

some of it was:

Quote:

Microsoft's Tom Pilla has confirmed the leak stating: "Today we became aware that incomplete portions of Windows 2000 and NT 4.0 source code was illegally made available on the Internet"

If this is actually true, this can cause SERIOUS problems, for the entire IT sector, and maybe even the economy.
