Hey All,

Moby here. Just wanted to drop a line and see what peoples thoughts are on the new upcoming film by Mel Gibson, The Passion. This movie is about the last 12 hours of Jesus Christ according to the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. I for one am thrilled that this movie is coming out. I have seen the trailers. You can too by clicking here

http://www.thepassionofthechrist.com

What do you guys think? Is Mel on the right track creating this movie?

I'd say there that he believes the Holocaust happened. He's just being a bit ambiguous for maybe different reasons. Not to upset his father, doesn't believe the accepted numbers but knows millions died, other reasons who knows. This guy points out that Gibson says "some of them were Jews" That though he takes out of context. Since it should be stated as this

"The Second World War killed tens of millions of people. Some of them were Jews in concentration camps"

So some of the Tens of Millions of people killed in WW2 were the Jews in Concentration camps. 6 million sounds like some of tens of millions to me. And saying that Gibson speaks in a way similar to a Holocaust denier, well he was obviously raised by one. So that could be why he speaks similar to one if he does believe it happened. Would someone who doesn't believe the Holocaust happened say "The guy who taught me Spanish was a Holocaust survivor" Wouldn't saying someone survived the Holocaust mean you believed it happened.

Here's a David Frum essay that really hammers home what bothers me about the whole Holocaust issue with Gibson:

http://www.nationalreview.com/frum/diary022904.asp

"Is Mel Gibson a Holocaust denier? I am not asserting that he is. After reading two interviews, I still do not know. Shouldn’t I know?"

Yeah, he should know, and so should the rest of us, but we don't.

There's more but I won't quote it at length. Click the link.

I was surprised.. there wasn't alot of that "religion shoved in your face" kind of thing. Keeping in mind I ]was attending a very christian movie, that aspect could have been alot worse.

at least with the movie you're chosing to have the "word of god" shoved in your face, unlike people that feel it is their duty to do it whether you ask for it or not.

very powerful movie, didn't really "like" it though. i have to say jesus rules, too bad the religious institution based on his teachings sucks by comparison.

I went to see Miracle this weekend, and when I came out the line for The Passion was.... 30 yards long (from where you give your ticket to the ENTRANCE doors), it was huge.

As for me, I dont think I'll see this. I'm a bit squeemish and not too much into God. Plus I'm only 14 so it would be hard to get admission :P

I'll probably see it soon. I don't normally like movies with pain and stuff, but if Jesus was willing to go through it for me, I should be willing to see a movie about it for him

I heard there's an hour long torture scene in this movie. I'm REALLY interested in seeing this... I'm not Christian, but I still think the story of Christ is an interesting thing.

/me loves Jesus.

I am going to see this Friday. My wife went with the staff from our church. She is not a CRYER at ALL. She said she went out to her Van and LOST IT. As I know the story, the events wont shock me. But Mel has studied for a long time and received numerous accounts on the ACTUAL process used for Flogging and Crucifixtion. These are the aspects which I dread seeing. But to truly know what Jesus went through to save US, is a must. I am glad you guys are posting your feedback from the movie. I will report mine Friday Night.

I cant wait to see it.

Aye JP, its not too much of an isolated cause, although, while my parents want me to marry a Jewish person, if I date a christian, they arnt gonna disown me :P Personally, I dont think she would have a problem with going and seeing it, all the Jew's I know just think "Hey, its a movie, I know the story, and its again, just a movie and just a story."

A religious movie, sold out a long time in advance? Man, it's weird how stuff like that differs from country to country. I have a feeling the movie will end up with red numbers here.

Welcome to the good ole US of A! :D Where I live, this movie will probably be in theatres through the summer (The Bible Belt - Southern US). Being an Atheist here is kinda like...well...uh...kinda like... Hmmm... weird. I'm always feeling a bit out of place. Perhaps I'd be more at home in Europe? :P
