Hey All, Moby here. Just wanted to drop a line and see what peoples thoughts are on the new upcoming film by Mel Gibson, The Passion. This movie is about the last 12 hours of Jesus Christ according to the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. I for one am thrilled that this movie is coming out. I have seen the trailers. /me loves Jesus. I am going to see this Friday. My wife went with the staff from our church. She is not a CRYER at ALL. She said she went out to her Van and LOST IT. As I know the story, the events wont shock me. But Mel has studied for a long time and received numerous accounts on the ACTUAL process used for Flogging and Crucifixtion. These are the aspects which I dread seeing. But to truly know what Jesus went through to save US, is a must. I am glad you guys are posting your feedback from the movie. Being a Catholic in a 65% jewish school theres some hostility here, as i also have a jewish girlfriend im hesitant to even mention it, for i already have my problems dating her for she cant tell her mom because she would disown her, for any jew ppl here, katan maybe you can help me with this, is this an isolated case, but im gonna ask her opinion on what shes heard of the movie, and maybe if she'll go see it with me, but my Christian friends who have seen it said it brought them to tears, even the big frat guys. I cant wait to see it. _______________ Come on now, every Generation X boy wanted to be Luke Skywalker. Is it because he was a whiney farm boy from some backwater hack planet? Just checked a Danish theater-site-thingy. It wasn't on the front page of the site, had to look for it. It's out here the 1st of March, and will then run the following week in 7 different theaters in the country. In my city, 2nd largest in the country, it will be run 3 days in that week, with a showing once a day. Nothing more. After that week is gone, they won't show it anymore where I live, and only 3 theaters will continue to show it, with reduced showings a day/week (can only view a week more than its releasedate, so, March 8th-14th, don't know if it will run longer than that, but I doubt it). Not gonna see it... perhaps, some time far out in the future, on DVD, but not in the teathers. Besides, I wouldn't even be able to see it if I wanted to, as I'm busy that week. Me being a pure 100%, raised south of the mason dixon line, USA, white trash conservative christian american, I will go see this movie. I saw the trailer and it gave me chills and had me misty eyed. I will seriously need time alone after this movie. I think it will bring something to my eyes that will have a definite impact on my life. To catch a small glimpse of what he went through ... just speechless... I almost don't want to go see it because i'm scared of what i'm gonna see. On the other hand, I HAVE to see it, I am drawn to it. Living in the southeastern US, christian religion is thick round these parts. I agree with Dante, although I wouldn't call it the best movie I've ever seen... I just finished seeing it... It is the best movie i've ever seen and i never want to see it again. I'm going to buy the dvd when it comes out and never take of the packaging. Well Smily, the Bible has been changed itself and there have also been more Gospels than the 4 we hear about all the time. Only one of those were written 30 years after Jesus' death. Well, I'll see it when I can. Mainly, and surprisingly, it's sold out here for nights, for the rest of the week. Never known any other film to do something like that. But the music isn't by Hans Zimmer, the guy who did Gladiatior, The Rock, etc. People just try to copy him. And also, most of the critics of the film are criticising things of faith, and not of the film, such as "This can't be an eyewitness account because things were written 30 years after." Well, that's how things were. It took that long for info to get around, and it wasn't exactly the thing to talk about when the Romans were pursuing the Christians. But that's just the critics being dumb in various instances. Though not all are bad. The only thing I will comment is that you most likely will need some "downtime" after the movie. I'm against the churches that rent out the theatre, and then have discussion after. One will NOT be in the mood to talk after it, or discuss it all too much. I'll post more once I see it, I may have to orient around work, so that I can go during the day. I have enough pull to get off work to see a religious movie. That, or they made me miss Ash Wednesday services, so, yeah, I can stick them with that. _______________ Jedi do not fight for peace. That's only a slogan, and is as misleading as slogans always are. I'll instead, just kinda tell the story the way I have come to learn/understand it. Back then, some scriptures were written on the times. One of them, which I cant remember the name person who wrote them told the story more like.... Back then, there were actually many people like Jesus, all preaching about rebellion from the Roman's, rebellion, being different, ect ect. at the time, Judaism was not in any set form, not everyone told the exact same thing Since information travelled so slowly, when some sort of info was found, it took forever to get to some groups, therefore everyone was always preaching Judaism differently, but the basis was the same. Jesus was one of the many preacher's, his teaching were not unorthadox, since everyone preached alittle bit differently. Did some Jewish Bankers and Preacher's want Jesus gone? Not in the fact that they would lose their power, but that he was stirring up trouble with the Roman's, and if they were to associate with him, well, they would be killed off with him possibly. So, its more that we (The Jew's) feared Jesus more than just wanted him dead. Yeah, I dont want to turn this into some sort of attacking thread about religion, and who did what to who because of what. Just wanted to state my story. ok i saw this movie Sun night. OMG its DRAMA! It was great in the fact that it leaves you with the semi understanding of what jesus went through. But it also changed the story out of the bible some too which kinda upset me some. Well, I'm going to go to see this movie, at least a few times. But just the point to be made: If we ALL were'nt such screw-ups, then we wouldn't have NEEDED for Him to come down to earth and die. As Mel said, he killed Christ. So did I, so did anyone that sinned. So. Yeah. I guess we can feel guilty, if we want. But this will sorta make people see what was given to all the world. I can't believe the people in the news talking about how it could be deemed offensive. Dude, 1) it's a freaking movie, no-one is forcing you to watch it, 2) The bible was written by humans so it is a little open to interperatation, 3) for all the jewish people who are offended, no one gets pissy when we make movies about Germany and the Holocaust, so don't get pissy if we make a movie where Jews are killing Christ, and sub-note on point 3) Yes, the Romans used crucificion histroically as a punishment, yes the bible says that the Roman government was pressured into killing him by the angry (Jewsish) masses and (Jewish) priests, and finally, no one should care about whose fault it is because every race, religion or creed has comitted an attrocity of some sort in it's history _______________ I must not fear . Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear . I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. Gom gom gom gom gom! |
