Hey All,

Moby here. Just wanted to drop a line and see what peoples thoughts are on the new upcoming film by Mel Gibson, The Passion. This movie is about the last 12 hours of Jesus Christ according to the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. I for one am thrilled that this movie is coming out. I have seen the trailers. You can too by clicking here

http://www.thepassionofthechrist.com

What do you guys think? Is Mel on the right track creating this movie?

Nice Bump?

You know I love Jesus and I love the Gospels. But honestly, I will NEVER watch this movie again. To me it had no redeeming qualitys whatsoever, I know his death is important, but I cant take it.

oh, lol, the Bible does? didn't know that, really didn't

is that in the Old Testament, or the New Testament?

I don't know if you people use those names too, so I'll just give the brief explanation in case you don't know it:

Old Testament (OT) = Everything which happens BEFORE the coming of Christ
New Testament (NT) = Everything which happens with Christ, and so also the Apocalypse story... not to mention all those letters:P

Quote:
What I don't get it is Satan asking to Jesus: "Who is your father? Who are you?"
Thats a part I just don't get.

Satan is trying to get Jesus to think. Is God his father? Or is he kidding himself and is Joseph his only father? That's what Satan is trying to achieve, doubt in Jesus' mind.

Quote:
The Snake represents Evil, right?

It represents Satan. In Genesis, God said to the serpant (Satan). "The decendants of this woman [i.e. Eve] will crush your head".

Quote:
Ten minutes of seeing how someone was tortured, and I've no doubt that this man was tortured for over an hour in real life.

History tells us he was beaten like this much of the day.

Quote:
I am very sure that if Jesus would be alive this day, he would say the exact same thing. And I can only agree to that.

Ditto

Quote:
But the Church gives us rules, forbids things, like pre-marrigial sex, gay-weddings, and furthermore (and what I think is the worst) they tell us HOW TO BELIEVE.

Wrong, the BIBLE forbits pre-marital sex and not just gay weddings but being gay.

Quote:
You can't do that. You can't say: "Go to the Church each Sunday, or you'll burn in hell!"
No one, besides God himself, has the authority and the Power to say that line.

The Bible does not say you have to go to Church. It is just good to go to Church and have fellowship with like-minded Christians (only if that Church is in line with the Bible).

Quote:
I personally, despise the Church.
They tell us how to believe, they lay down rules, they have statues of pure gold...

Generally I despise the Church too. ONLY when the Church is in line with the Bible will I accept it as right. That is why it has taken me, personally, so long to find a Church I feel comfortable at. The Church I am at now - everything is in line with the Bible, so I have no qualms in going there.

They even quote some of the lines at the end.

I especially lost my belief in the Church when I saw the film Stigmata.
At the end they reveal that in 1994 there was found a scripture in jeruzalem, and it was supposed to be written by Jesus himself!
It told us that we did not have to go to church, for the power of God was in your own heart. All we needed to do is belief, and search for God in nature itself, and we would find and we would see.
When this document was proven to be accurate, and really written by someone of Jerusalem two thousand years ago, the Church immediately called the document blasphemy!
For it contradicted everything else. It contradicted the Church. It told you that the Power of God was not to be found in buildings of stone. If that document was to be found in the real world, no one would go to church anymore, and the church would fade away, which is something they obviously tried to prevent.

Now I never saw Stigmata, but I don't think it was based on a true story from the previews I remember seeing for it. I've never heard of any kind of document that your refering to. Even if the document was denounced by the church, I'm sure I would have seen it in the news or something, granted i was only 6 at the time, but I can't imagine that it wouldn't have been a big deal.

As for the church (not sure which one you mean but im talking about Catholic now) they really don't have a motive to lie about it. It's not like Medevil times where the priests were rich and were mainly in the priesthood for money and power. Priests nowadays are more logically and I assume would be extremely interested in Jesus' actual words. If you have any other source about this I'd be very interested.

I dunno if that made sense but I'm tired and don't feel like reading that over.

Quote:
He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; by His wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53 -- 700 BC

I have went to see The Passion and I felt compelled to write a few lines about the movie:

First off all, I can't shake the fact that I think this movie offers us the truth... I can imagine this really happened. The torture with the whips, the cruel crusifiction, everything.
Also the part where Jesus is almost begging his Father for help alongside the Olive-tree...
I think that even if Jesus was the Son of God, he would still have been scared to death for what would happen. He would feel the pain.

Then, Judas getting the money for his betrayal. Thirty Silverlings.
A friend of mine who was with me asked me: "Why do they show that with such show?"
I immediately answered: "The money that flies through the air, to be catched by Judas, is actually the selling of Jesus' life. They just show the significance."

What I don't like at all, is that they can't get their quotes right.
Quote:
If it is possible, let this chalice pass from me. But let your will be done, not mine

I always heard it was: "Please, my Father, let this chalice (that's a cup btw) pass over me... <silence>. But it's not my will... It's your Will! Your will be done!"
But I could be mistaken at that point.

Also, about Satan being a messenger of Light, I get where you're coming from, and I actually discussed that with a RL friend, and when Satan (or at least some form of devil) entered the movie as a pale man, with no hair, and a grim face, we both had the thought 'shouldn't he be fair to look at?'
It came to me later that this is how Jesus sees him... Jesus sees the truth behind Satan.
Then Satan trying to seduce Jesus to dis-believing the Word of his Father.
"Do you really believe that one man can bear the full burden of sin? No one can carry this burden, I tell you. It is far too heavy. Saving their souls is too costly. No one. Ever. No. Never..."
These really are treacherous words, but what I admire is that they do not touch the heart of Jesus at all. He just ignores Satan and keeps praying to his Father.
But then, when the light around Jesus (which came from the moon) suddenly disappears, you see Jesus actually despairing for a moment. When the light reappears, all hope returns in his heart.
What I don't get it is Satan asking to Jesus: "Who is your father? Who are you?"
Thats a part I just don't get.
But then the Snake, which slides to Jesus, and Jesus trampling the Snake, I think I do get. The Snake represents Evil, right?

"He curses the sick by magic. With the help of Devils. He casts out Devils with the help of Devils!"
Isn't this the part where Jesus says something along the lines of:
"No kingdom can stand if brought apart by internal struggles. For how can I use Beƫlzebub to cast out demons without bringing internal struggles into his own Kingdom?" (or something along those lines, I only read the Dutch version, so I'm translating to English here).

Quote:
I say to you, before the cock crows three times you will deny me

Next, the horrible whips which they had done. All the while Jesus did not cry (for as far as I can remember) nor did he cry out.
This is the part where even the funniest people in my class went silent. The entire room went silent. For this scene showed what it was to be tortured like that.
Alltogether, this scene lasts for about ten minutes.
Ten minutes of seeing how someone was tortured, and I've no doubt that this man was tortured for over an hour in real life.
How he could go on after that, was beyond me.
But I do think I know where he got his strenght... In the knowledge of knowing there is a God.
He got his strength of out Believing... Something we all should do...

Jesus did not like the way the Church was being run

Quote:
My father's house, is a house of prayer... But you have turned it into a hole for wolves.

I am very sure that if Jesus would be alive this day, he would say the exact same thing. And I can only agree to that.
Jesus gave us the message to love eachother, and to believe and trust in God, for his Father would show us the way, he would lead us, he would give us Salvation.
But the Church gives us rules, forbids things, like pre-marrigial sex, gay-weddings, and furthermore (and what I think is the worst) they tell us HOW TO BELIEVE.
You can't do that. You can't say: "Go to the Church each Sunday, or you'll burn in hell!"
No one, besides God himself, has the authority and the Power to say that line.

I personally, despise the Church.
They tell us how to believe, they lay down rules, they have statues of pure gold...

If that document was to be found in the real world, no one would go to church anymore, and the church would fade away, which is something they obviously tried to prevent.

But then, this was my point of view.
I hope you're still alive, since it took me an hour and a half to write this.

Maybe I'm too late to clear this up, but the thing about Satan being a messenger of light? It's a reference to a scripture in the Bible: 2 Corinthians 11:12-15. "For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their deeds." All it really means is that the Devil doesn't look horrible. Why would he? Who would follow an ugly, terrifying being? Satan appears as an angel of light, but is really only decieving.

But that doesn't mean he didn't fall out of heaven, right?
