Sup,

The best was my grandma's response to reading this.

"All those smart computer people should be smart enough to make the machine skip 666"

Me: (through my griding teeth) "Yeah, you'd think so."

And no you wouldnt/couldnt say anything either, cause its a sweet old lady, saying the stupid idea.

Deeming the movie unholy??? LOL It has nothing to do with that the movie, it's that theater that prints the tickets.

At an ISP I once worked for we recieved a rather angry email form a lady who said that as good christians we shouldn't have given her an account number with "666" in it. We told her it was an auto generated number and to shut the fcuk up. We made devil signs at our computer while replying.

Anyhow don't change a damn thing. When I saw The Passion the sound then picture cut out for 10 minutes in the middle of the show. It was a technical glitch and service was restored in 10 minutes. The theatre manager gave us all refunds on our tickets. You should have seen the look on these people's faces during the outage. It's like the theater manager may as well have kicked them in the junk instead of apologizing for the outage. One lady behind me behind me said "Hmph. The devil has his hand in everything it seems.". She's lucky I'm such a nice guy (and wasn't surrounded by 100's of Baptists). I'd have got up and told her off like the religious cow she was. I bet she's responsible for 50% of the spam I get an 90% of the virii I get just by leaving her computer on. Grr.. Now I'm all angry. Thanks, Javaguy! :P

"Think about it, what are the odds that a ticket making computer would choose to use 666 as the prefix for the "Passion" tickets? I don't know exactly, but they are probably astronomical."

Actually, the odds are pretty good. For any one particular movie theatre, the odds of it happening are quite slim. But The Passion is playing all over the country. There's a 1-in-1000 chance of the first three digits being 666.

Now pay attention because this is really cool: For any one theatre, the probability that it is not 666 is 999 out of 1000, or .999. For N theatres the probability that none of their machines churn out 666 is .999 to the Nth power.

For example, if there are 150 theatres, the probability is -- *grabs calculator* -- ~86% that none of them pick 666, which means there's about a 14% chance that one of them will pick 666. Bump up the number to 500 theatres, and now there's only a ~61% chance that none of them will pick 666 at random, meaning a 39% chance that one will.

I don't know how many theatres are playing it, but if the ticket machine in question is fairly common, then this was almost bound to happen.

" I think the folks at the cinema should change the ticket number. Not because it's wrong or anything, just to shut people up."

I was thinking they should keep it just to hear them squawk. :D

That's kinda funny.

I also agree with Admiral Aratan, pure coincidence.
