I don't belive that. When you talk, other things don't get more quiet. If your ears shut off, then when you talked, everything else around you would be either muffled or you couldn't hear at all.

When you talk, you hear your own voice box's vibation. That's why people hear themselves talk lower than other people hear them.

They have the same vowel sound, but not the same consanant sound. "ple (pull)" "cal (cull)" They don't rhyme.

Kind of makes sense because Dr. Pepper has, in my opinion, the only flavor that really stands out as distinctive from other sodas--not saying that all sodas are alike or that I prefer DP, just that it's the most different from all the others.

There's a mixed drink you can get in a bar called a Dr. Pepper. I forget what's in it, but the bartender sets a shot glass of something on fire, then drops it into a larger glass of something else, and then you gulp the whole thing down immediately. It tastes almost exactly like Dr. Pepper and does not at all taste like a strong alcoholic beverage, which in fact it is (two or three will get you quite sloppy).

There is no English word that rhymes with Orange.

As for verticle rhyming with purple, I don't think that counts, but as an aside I once read a cool article about people who study rhymes. Yes, there are people who do that! It turns out that there are names for lots of different kinds of rhymes, including "inexact" rhymes like vertical and purple. I wish I could find that link again. There's a word for the rhyme where two words rhyme except for one consonant being different. There are words for when only the last syllable rhymes, and when the last two syllables rhyme. There's a term for when words have the same number of syllables and the vowels all rhyme but none of the consonants, e.g. "keyboard" rhymes with "Igor" in this way.

I'd really like to see a source on the ears turning off when you talk. It sounds like one of those factoids you see in "amazing facts" e-mails that turn out to be completely false and show up on snopes.com, but I didn't find it on Snopes, so it passes the first test. ;) I still sounds like a bit much.

Are you sure? If I'm not mistaken, Coca-Cola was one of the first ever made. If you can provide a link with facts about it, that would be cool. :)

It appears true. During searching I found a ton of pages to indicate it was true.

Soda Museum
Soft drink timeline

1885 Charles Aderton invented "Dr Pepper" in Waco, Texas.
1886 Dr. John S. Pemberton invented "Coca-Cola" in Atlanta, Georgia.

The first cola flavoured drink appeared in 1881

I thought Coka-Cola was just the only soft drink company to actually put cocain in as their "special ingredient" to keep people hooked. (Obviously, they don't do it anymore).

The first product to use a bar code was gum. (It was juicy fruit if I recall correctly)

Dr. Pepper was invented before Coka-Cola.

That's probably true. I wonder, though, if the pen might be mightier if we limit our study strictly to the industrialized nations? Actually, I'm pretty skeptical about the figure on deaths from pens, but I haven't yet found a source on it.

Java, consider the foreign countries and Afrika, they have swords there, and there is also fighting there. Swords are still being used in warfare, so I think there will be more then 100 death per year due to a sword, sadly :(
