So I tried explaining LOTR today to someone who doesn't know the movies, nor the books. I found it at the least to be very hard... and she didn't get the story at the end... So we're going to try the same in here I will start with a part, and the next one continues with the part, and stops at another point. We start with the Hobbit, since all starts there, I suppose.(movie-wise, not book-wise) Let's try to do both, shall we? ![]() do it in this format [Book] explanation of part [Movie] explanation of part so we can also get a very clear view of the differences between the books and the movies. P.S.: I did not post this in crazy since it seems a normal discussion here The Hobbit: [Book] I suppose hobbits need some description nowadays, since they have become rare and shy of the Big People, as they call us. They are (or were) a little people, about half our height, and smaller than the bearded Dwarves. Hobbits have no beards. There is little or no magic about them, except the ordinary everyday sort which helps them to disappear quietly and quickly when large stupid folk like you and me come blundering along, making a noise like elephants which they can hear a mile off. They are inclined to be at in the stomach; they dress in bright colours (chiefly green and yellow); wear no shoes, because their feet grow natural leathery soles and thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads (which is curly); have long clever brown fingers, good-natured faces, and laugh deep fruity laughs (especially after dinner, which they have twice a day when they get it). One day, Bilbo Baggins,(Bagginses never had any adventures or did anything unexpected) a wel-to-do Hobbit, was just smoking a pipe on his doorstep when Gandalf came by. Gandalf! [Movie] No movie (yet) Continue... ![]() _______________ Visit the Belouve Family Website! Quote: I try to have fun with my friends and try to make a difference as best I can. Lord of the Rings: The movies A trilogy of movies, this is the classic story of good against evil. These movies origionally were in book form, and are the sequal to the book by the same author, The Hobbit. J.R. Tolken wrote the Lord of the Rings in a series of letters that he mailed to his son during WWII. His son was serving as a soldier and his father (being a little bit of the supersitious type) was convinced that as long as he sent letetrs, his son would survive. The story is that of the one ring. This ring was forged deep within the side of a mountain. It was imbued with magical properties that would empower the wearer. This ring was created by the evil Lord Soromon (spelling?). During a battle against the world which fought him, for both their freedom and survival, a great knight cut off Soromon's arm, and killed him. But, as he took the ring to be destroyed, he was betrayed by his comrades who sought the power of the ring. For thousands of years, the ring was forgotten. At the beginning of this movie, we hear all this, and of how in the Hobbit, a being named Golem found the ring. This ring was stolen from him by a hobbit (similar to halfling). Now, in the Lord of the Rings, Frodo (the Hobbit's grandson) has inhereted the ring, and the great magician Gandolf has told him the true nature of the ring. Defeated, but not destroyed, Soromon continues his battle to recover the ring in the form of a firey eye who commands the orcs of the east and now begins to corrupt others with his dark power. He commands the ring wraiths, who were slain kings whom he can control, to find Frodo and the ring. Frodo, along with an almost D&D party or adventurers journey to find a way to destroy the ring, defeat the legions of darkness, and restore peace to middle earth. ![]() That about sums it up _______________ I must not fear . Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear . I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. Gom gom gom gom gom! |
