Sorry Queenie  A friend of mine (who's a history teacher) took me on a mini tour around a few of the Central Oxford Colleges. Yep, Tolkien "Tollers" was a teacher in Oxford in the early 20's, in 1924 he became a professor of literature there. From 1945 to 1959 he was Merton Professor of English there too. Oxford rules! Also, he was a member of the group, the Inklings, in which also C.S. "Jack" Lewis was a member of. And just think of the literary treasures they have created I just wrote this because I am a serious fan of English literature, and also interested in researching the lives and backgrounds of my favourite authors Anyone who studies at Oxford is an instant object of my envy Anyway, back to work  -Cas _______________ Thanks to the human heart by which we live, Thanks to its tenderness, its joys, and fears, To me the meanest flower that blows can give Thoughts that do often lie too deep for tears. |

He did live there during his professorship and wrote the Lord of The Rings under a specific tree in the Botanical gardens there - and a very lovely tree it is too - should stick up a photo of it shouldn't I?! As for other rediculously famous ppl who were there, so was Lewis Carol = Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass...... Basically, It's a city steeped in history and MUCH BETTER than Cambridge, that is know as the 'Pale Immitation' of Oxford.  _______________ This is not the place to look for me |
