There's a new internet worm ravaging the net at the moment. It has the ability to force a machine to restart and might even be able to install hidden software on your computer. I myself have been the victim of this worm. Run Windows update and keep the firewalls running and you should be fine. Edit: There's a small program over at the Symantec website called Fxsasser.exe. It removes any sasser viruses from your cpu. Get it if you believe you're infected. Size 148 kb. _______________ 362 Ohi on! This post was edited by Steinin on May 03 2004 06:27pm. |

Windows was hacked by a high-school student. The worm's author is identified as Sven J., which sounds like sort of a German rapper. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |

Thanks for the warning. A friend of mine has it. I ran update yesterday. If the shutdown count down begins and you need more than 30 secs, go to start>run and type cmd Then in the console type "shutdown -a" to abort the countdown But, only do if you really really need to because ti is not a good thing to run XP with lsa disabled _______________ I must not fear . Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear . I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. Gom gom gom gom gom! |

There's also an A variant. But now after M$ has annouced its security vurnability more evil virus creators know where to aim their next menacing virus. The sasser is not very dangerous, turning off and on systems, but update anyway because there's worse things on the way. _______________ 362 Ohi on! |

If someone can post details (name, etc.), I'll add this to my list at work (I fix computers, so I bet I will see a lot of service with this new worm). Edit: I think this is it...latest stuff off the Symantec website: THREAT: W32.Sasser.B.Worm CATEGORY: 4 W32.Sasser.B.Worm attempts to exploit the LSASS vulnerability described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-011, and spreads by scanning randomly-chosen IP addresses for vulnerable systems. _______________ Jedi do not fight for peace. That's only a slogan, and is as misleading as slogans always are. Jedi fight for civilization, because only civilization creates peace.
