Nuclear reaction at the center of the Earth? | |

http://www.rense.com/general25/vore.htm This is still in the "educated speculation" stage--no consensus in the scientific community yet, and it's all very new. But the people doing the speculating appear to be fairly qualified scientists and speaking within their own area of expertise, so I'm putting this one in General Discussion rather than Crazy Stuff. _______________ My signature is only one line. A fairly sober, rational and scientifically-minded acquaintence has stated that he thinks it's plausible. It would, for example, explain why after 3 billion years the Earth's core has not cooled to solid rock. And the part about a naturally-ocurring fission reactor in Gabon is definitelt true; I remember reading about that when I was taking physics in college. Still unsettling to see in on one of those moon-landing-was-fake web pages. Then again, maybe the researchers just have a weird sense of humor and thought it would be funny to go there first. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |

Yikes! ![]() ![]() I just looked at the main page from rense.com, where the article I linked came from. UFOs, Zionist conspiracy theories, lost ruins on Mars...and pretty much every other standard from the Nutcase Playbook. ![]() That doesn't discredit the theory by itself, but I have to wonder, if these guys are serious researchers, why they would sully their professional reputations by association with such a loony bin. Real scientists publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals, not in the funny pages. So maybe not. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |

Stars use nuclear fusion: combining hydrogen atoms to create helium and massive amounts of energy and no radioactive waste. Uranium reactors operate on nuclear fission: splitting an atom apart by bomarding it with particles. _______________ When you are going through Hell, keep going. -Sir Winston Churchill. Yeah you don't need to worry about radiation if this is possible. one of the ways to store nuclear waste from man made power plants is to bury them miles below the earth's surface. So you know having Liquid hot Mag-ma in between that too I wouldn't be concerned _______________ When you are going through Hell, keep going. -Sir Winston Churchill. There is gravitational attraction between water molecules, but yeah, it's the hydrogen bonds. The amount of gravitational effect in a drop of water is negligible. I don't think radiation would be an issue because of how many hundreds of miles of rock there is between us and the reactor, if there is one. I remember learning about the natural reactor in Gabon when I was taking physics in college. Very cool stuff. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |

A drop of water maintains its shape because of intramolecular forces called hydrogen bonds. That's not the same thing as gravity. ![]() |

well. if you would throw water into space you'd see it will get round. that means it atracts itself...that was what I meant really _______________ -Nero Quote: Curious, Smartass, what else? This comment was edited by Nero on May 22 2004 04:04pm. |

Actually, Nero, what would you classify as everything? Everything on this planet? You don't mean we run our own field, do you? We're influenced by an external gravity source. I for one find this a fairly plausible theory and can't wait until more is discovered. I love these kinds of revolutionary thoughts. Keep 'em coming, JavaGuy! |

well..I'm not very good at science but it doesn't really make sense to me. The earth would have much more radiation then I s'pose![]() the magnetic field thing doesn't really make sense to me too. Everything has a (sometimes very small) magnetic field but that doesn't make everything a reactor does it? maybe I'm just to stupid for this nvm what I'm saying ![]() _______________ -Nero Quote: Curious, Smartass, what else? |
