i think there SHOULD be a draft. i think the f*ing congressmen would be a lot less gung-ho to start wars and sh*t with other nations if there was a change they'd be sending their grandkids to their deaths. it's easy to approve of death and killing when it doesn't affect you. f*cking politicians...man... _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! |

If you remeber "military intellegnce" is one of the most commonly know oxymorons. The amount we spend doesn't mean all that much. $300 toilet seats? Remeber that rumor? I don't beleive the military is dumb. What do beleive is they are either cutting costs, using simple accounting practices, or the government/military is using money for "other" activites. Explination of the accounting practices: I forget the name of it but a very simple way to record the cost it takes to manufactor an item is ( number of items produced ) / ( cost to produced them ) so a factory that makes metal washers might look like this 1000 washers made in a day / $100 spent to make them so it costs $0.10 to make a washer. makes sense so far right? lets say the factory makes metal washer on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday then on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, they make handguns. 5 handguns made in a day / $100 to make them so it costs $20.00 to make a handgun. Now in one week they make 3000 washers and 15 handguns. To make things simple they say they produce "units" instead of guns or washers so they produce 3015 units in a week at a cost of $600 per week. So in the end it costs them $0.199005 per item. NOTE: I could have and probably did mess up on the arithmatic, I don't really care, so feel free to waste your time correcting me. I really doubt any companies use this practive but what do I know, I hated accounting. Also this is a pretty nifty way to skew the costs of things and if say the same factory made tanks and spoons, thig figures could even more wacked. The explination of the "other" things the govt./military could be doing with thier money: I have none, they could be feeding hungry children on other countries or spending it on high cost whores? _______________ Silent Bob (Kevin Smith): You know, there's a million fine looking women in the world, dude. I don't think the US has a shortage on soldiers or military equipment if you look at the huge amounts of money spent on it. _______________ Ceterum censeo Carthaginem esse delendam |

I find the idea of conscripts fighting for freedom to be, well, um...Geez, words fail me. It's not likely, though. We haven't had a draft since the Viet Nam war, and we haven't needed a draft since WWII. They could have recruited enough people for 'Nam simply by paying soldiers enough. In WWII, though, the Army alone needed 3.5 million men, to say nothing of the other services. A draft was necessary then. We're not facing a crisis like that, nor is it likely. Right now the U.S. has bone-crushing military strength, and if we ever need to mobilize against a major power like China the nuclear side of the equation will likely settle the matter while you're still filling out your draft card. But yeah, there are a coupld boneheads in Congress who think we should have a draft. My Congressman is not one of them, nor are most. I agree, though, we should always be vigilant. Not all threats to liberty come from abroad. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |

A couple of people in Congress have floated the idea of a draft, but it's a political non-starter. This is not going to happen. Do not take congress.org seriously. If you explore the web site you'll see it's filled with "new world order" conspiracy theories. I didn't find anything about extraterrestrials or black helicopters, but I didn't look very long either. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |

WHAT?!?! Now I don't know much about the military but I was under the impression that we had more than enough soldiers in the Army to deal with this matter. Why the heck do they need to draft? If we can't "handle" this issue with the ones we've got, I don't see much of a chance at winning this "war" ![]() _______________ - Proud padawan of Kueller. - We really are at the beginning of it all.
