that she is 12th grade is no wonder. she has no TV where she can sit in front of and gets brain-nuked. she has no friends for which it is more important to get good dressed than to learn for school. the only thing she can do in the forest is play with stics, anemals and her father. if he takes care on her and makes intresting lessons she can learn a lot. sure, she wont have homework, but thats in normal schools only somthing to force students to learn. she dont have anything else to do, so she will be interested in everything out in the world....
this example showes how ineffective the normal school is... :P but if you ask me, i dont want to spend my childhood in the forrest with nothing else than school ...

greetings,
daid

It doesn't sound like they rejected technology, though. They just maintained a simple, amazingly low-budget and, yes, rather unorthodox lifestyle.

If I were single and unattached, I would very seriously consider living outdoors for a few years. I wouldn't be as hard-core as this guy--I'd still have my Lincoln and probably a laptop computer. But I bet I could own a whole bunch of rental properties in under ten years if I didn't have the expense of owning my own house.

Good poitn Javaguy. But that's western civilization for you. anything that isn't part of society must be f'ed up. Heaven forbid we not embrace technology.

I think they find it unaceptable because for some reason, the state thinks it their responibility to decide what's right for kids (and in some situations, bad ones, it is). At least they didn't decide to take her away from her father like they would normally do. They should feel lucky they actually had police officers who actually for once cared.

WOW!!!

I agree with Javaguy, if they were both healthy and the girl was educated, why is that unacceptable?

I don't understand why their living conditions were "unacceptable." She was being educated. She was fed and clothed. They camped out all the time, sure, but lots of people camp out a lot. It sounds like her standard of living was considerably better than many "properly" housed children.

I know a guy who lived for three months at a public camp ground. He looked at what rent and utilities cost per month, looked at what the camping fee added up to over a month, and ended up living there all summer. A very economical way to live.
