CTF vs FFA and Dueling | |

(this was originally posted under 'Academy Discussions' but should have gone here from the start. Sorry about that)
Heya. I thought I'd just take up some simple things on manners in CTF that differ FFA or Dueling. CTF is like an ongoing duel between two teams. The difference is you will most likely score more points if you can outrun your opponents instead of just killing them. Rule #1: Chatkilling is ok. In this ongoing duel, noone should ever chat or bring down the console unless it's a part of their gameplay, so chatkilling is ok. After all, if someone's telling the defender "Incoming on the left side", that person IS still playing, chat icon or no chat icon, and it's ok to kill him. Just don't waste time to kill some chatting dopehead on your way to the flag. Shoot him once and then run on (if you know how to move, he'll be way out of sight before you've had chance to fire a second time anyways). Rule #2: Attacking an unarmed person is ok. CTF is sort of a battle for positions. The team that holds the best positions is likely to win the game. A person running around with his saber down is most likely going to a place where he thinks he can do much good. Kill him before he gets there. Rule #3: The team scores, not you. If you kill the enemy flagcarrier, don't get angry if someone else returns it, and don't run out of your way to grab someone else's flag. The one closest should return it, or if it's in a bad spot, DON'T return it. This can be very useful for defending, since most players on the other team won't know where it is, and the player who 'dropped' it will rush for it as soon as he can. Rule #4: Help your teammates. Once again, the team scores and not you. You should have team energize or team heal to lvl 3 if you're playing ctf (any team game, actually), and use it as much as you can. There are certain positions on every map where a person is expected to be light or dark side depending on what the capper most often needs when he gets there, force or healing. Rule #5: The saber is useless in a guns game. (well... that was a bit bland, I guess, but still). It still is true. Saber has no reach what so ever, unless you throw it, and then you can just outrun it. If you're running around with saber attack to level 3 and saber throw (any at all) you won't have enough forcepoints to get the important skills (All neutral powers to lvl 3 with possible exception for seeing which can be lvl 2), absorb and heal if you're light side and rage and energize if you're dark side. Rule #6: Suicide. A lot! This is not only for when you're falling down, but for when you're out of force (on pubs, force regen time is 200, instead of the academys 100), low on health, don't have a gun or if you've spent most of your 'speed session' and you're still in your home base (when you kill enemy flagger and return the flag, for instance). This way, you get to respawn with fresh force, 100 health and the possibility to get the guns instead of ammo if you're low on it. For those of you who think suiciding is a way to keep the opponent from scoring points, read rule #3 again, and then one more time just for good measure. When someone suicides, it's only to save time. The couple of extra seconds might be just what's needed to cap or to keep the opposing team from doing so. Rule #7: Don't join a winning team. You should always choose "auto join" when you come new to a server, and stay on that team, even if you're losing badly. Just point it out and it should be fixed. Rule #8: Have fun, and play nice. Having fun won't be hard at all if you feel comfortable playing the game, and all academy dudes should be expert at playing nice. Gun on! /Pepsi PS. These rules go for any ctf game outside the academy (and hopefully on academy ctf classes). If you're playing on 'academy time', the rules of the instructor are the ones that are valid. |

Indeed, Kainey. The evil speedrage has tripped me many a time. ![]() Anyways, I was playing on a pub just the other day and I thought I might add a bit of terminology (as this goes a bit with manners as well) of the game. They can be quite brutal at times, but if you only know what's meant, you'll see that there's love in the thorns as well. First of all, everybody who 'spams' a move (the word 'spam' has actually been removed, since what kills counts in a good level ctf game) is called a 'whore'. I don't know why this is so, but it is. Being a 'whore' is nothing wrong, and it's sometimes the most efficient way to play the game (depending on opposition and other things), and there are 2 main types of 'whores' around. 1. The Ragewhore. Ragewhores use speed and rage combined to either catch up with the enemy flagger and kill him quickly, or to steal the flag and get away while killing everything in sight. It is totally impossible to play 'wrong' as a ragewhore, with the possible exception of you running out of speed and rage just when you reach the enemies flag. 2. The Pull/Push whore (commonly named just pullwhore) This is a player that uses pull to keep other players from running away, and to make them fall off ledges, etc. etc. This is quite alright, but your teammates will get pretty pissed off if all you do is stand in one spot and pull. The most efficient way to be a pullwhore is to pull and shoot, pull and shoot, and pull and shoot again (unless you're up against a ragewhore, where you should just pull. We're assuming you're chasing someone here, and that it doesn't really matter if you die as long as he/she gets killed). If anybody objects to your way of playing the game, just tell them "what kills counts...". gun on! /Pepsi This comment was edited by Pepsi on Feb 20 2003 04:08pm. |

Looking forward to playing you again on saturday. Hopefully they'll let us play properly with suicides and stuff.
Can I just add some stuff ? You don't really need saber at all if you're proper fast, but theres not many people that are up to that lvl. Lvl one saber offense just so you get the weapon. Now, you're not gonna swing the thing, you're gonna use it as a shield. Therefore you need lvl 2 defense, 3 if you afford the points. The reason for this is so you can at least buy some seconds by defending yourself and also so you get kick which is a very powerful and underestimated tool. For flag retrieval, if the guy is light, bang on rage and just fire whatver you have at him. If he's dark you could either do the same or use grip kick which is actually very effective and has got the flag back off many of the big movers and shakers, Starcaft, Skygod (from your old clan) and Detritic, plus many other members of the JA (its a caputre the flag clan not the academy guys ![]() _______________ Apprenctice of Jedi Master Ascari (deceased) Descended from a line of great Jedi Will argue any point of view from any side ![]() |

Maybe you should go and repost your strafing topic here as well. _______________ When you are going through Hell, keep going. -Sir Winston Churchill. Those who seek power and control of others, no matter the level, no matter the intentions, should never be given it. |
