The Chronicles of Riddick: i'm surprised...it didn't suck! | |

yeah, that about sums it up. it was fantastically non-sucky! i was very surprised. but maybe my lowered expectations for the movie made it seem much better than it really was. but when i reflect on it, i think there were a lot really nice things about it. (oh, you might watch Pitch Black since it's related to this movie, but it sucks compared to chronicles imo. gives a little back story that enhances the new one, but isn't completely necessary.) the fight sequences: they did a great job of really mixing it up. about 8-12 hot fight sequences throughout the movie and each one it quite unique. sometimes it's guns blazing, sometimes hand to hand, sometimes melee weapons, sometimes space ships, sometimes all combined in one big fray! (ok, ok, no one really fights a space ship with their bare hands.) the special fx: nicely done! this movie did a good job of using fx to enhance the movie, rather than making whole cgi characters that suck ass. *cough*LUCAS*cough* although the dog creatures were kinda funky weird, they were far better than the asscows that anikin hops on in the fields to impress padme in episode 2. and i thought the elemental character was a bit goofy too. i thought they did a great job on the effects on all the necromonger stuff to give them that "other worldly" feel. very, very, nice stuff overall. the acting: well it's vin diesel, but he actually does this kinda character well i thought. i would rather have my eyes gouged out than watch "the fast and the furious" so i'm no big vin fan. the hot evil chick is obviously there for her hotness, because she is kind of annoying with her acting in places, melodramatically evil and that kinda stuff. but it's forgivable. (oh, and little jack from pitch black is back, and how! ooga ooga!!! ![]() the verdict: go see it! don't drop $10 to see it, but definitely catch a matinee. if you're a fan of sci-fi i'd say it is a must see. it kicks more ass than any of the past 5 star trek movies combined and i might even go so far as to say it's far better than episode I or II of SW, but i had high hopes for those two and i didn't expect jack-crap from this. so i was mighty overjoyed. FAR BETTER THAN TROY!!! ![]() _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! |
