I found this cool Linux distro that does not require partitioning your hard drive. It doesn't require a boot loader takeover like Lilo or Grub and uninstalls by deleting the folder in Windows. I got it all working and it kicks arse!

Oh and btw: if you wanna be so independent, try that VPC 2004 of yours (although I prefer VPC 5); you can run any linux there. And you delete it by deleting its virtual HD (a .vhd file) :)

I did :) I installed Mandrake 10 into a virtual PC. Worked great but I wanted to have a Linux that is running at the full speed of my machine. The last time I installed Linux natively on my machine, the bootloader didn't load itself correctly. It would let me into Linux, but the Windows partition was inaccessible (but still present.) When I tried replacing the MBR with the original, I had a computer that could run nothing. I got it working by sys'ing the drive with an old win 98 boot disk (I had Windows XP using FAT32.) I then found out from Partition Magic that the FAT table was corrupt. I had to wipe the drive clean and reinstall everything. Scary stuff to say the least, but I lost no data because the computer was still bootable even with a fried FAT table.

lol, that same exact thing happened to me on my box. I ended up with the same result, had to wipe my HDD. From this point on, I'm not ever going to mess with dual boot without a 2nd HDD.

Knoppix is fun, gnoppix is better imo. I'm gnome fan though. I had the stripped version on my jumpdrive. Had loads of fun with that work :D.

Oh, didn't know that. Will it work like this distro? Can these others be removed just by deleting files or do they need their own partitions?

Most Linuxes require their own partitions. Some don't (e.g. LiveCDs)

Why would I wanna get that instead of its predecessor, Slackware, if I'm gonna use it independently. Why would I wanna use a Linux on top of Windows; would crash as often as Windows :P

Well without touching on the Win vs. Linux argument, the reason I like the distro is that I am 100% windows xp and I want to be able to fall back on windows xp if I don't like what I see. I want to do all that without messing up the partitions, fat table, or bootloader. For me, its the Linux I always wanted.

u can even install EVERY linux on top of FAT or many other fs, too.

knoppix IS a standalone linux.

u can even install EVERY linux on top of FAT or many other fs, too.

also, you can run another OS on a i586 and above CPU because it supports multi-tasking in HARDWARE. so it kinda runs next to windoze. if win crashes, bad luck. linux keeps running.

nonetheless, interesting project ;)

Dunno, I don't like the idea of OSs running on top of other OSs; that's why I don't really even like Knoppix :\ IMO every OS must be independent and stuff :) Ok I see in the FAQ that this OS can be standalone; but in FAT32. WTF?!?! :P :D Why would I wanna get that instead of its predecessor, Slackware, if I'm gonna use it independently. Why would I wanna use a Linux on top of Windows; would crash as often as Windows :P

Oh, and judging by the site, it's cheap :P Either he didn't wanna spend time on the site so he opened M$ Paint and did all the gfx, or he just only has M$ Paint :P
