In like 2 weeks, I'm gonna get kitten! I'd like to get a short-haired male with gray-ish fur. He's going to be an indoor cat, but I won't have it declawed, in case it does happen to escape outside he'll have a fighting chance in the wild. I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on adopting one. The last time I adopted a kitten, I was 9 years old (about 25 years ago!  ) Should I go to a shelter or look in the paper for someone that's giving them away? Any reccomendations on cat food, toys, kitty litter, etc.?Also, I need to give it a name. I'm pretty set on either Bob, Steve or Bill (yes, as in Battlin' Billy). If you suggest a name that really blows me away, I'll consider that too. And I'll definitely post pics! I was told it was good to get 2 kittens as they keep each other company, we are out of the house most days working. We were going to get just one but when we went to pick him up his brother had no home so we took him home too. Shelters are the best place to get cats. They wouldn't give us a cat/kitten because we are on a busy road. Pet shops and breeders who charge are a bad idea it encourages breeding for money loving breeders are just happy to see them homed in a nice place. We only feed them dry food as long as they have lots of water it's fine, it doesn't smell as much and last longer. Cat litters, well It will smells when you have to clean it but what ya gonna do, jabs are essetial and it is good, if not a bit harsh, to have them DONE the "urges" can make them troublesome. Being a SW geek I like Wookie names, I always wanted a cat named Chewie so his brother name had to be Han. I was tempted to cal them Artoo and Threepio but the wife said no. The Terrible twosome. Scratching post are essential. GL at keeping it away from the curtains and Pets do make a house a home. When you get a cat, make sure to keep it inside for about a week to two weeks. This'll make them accept they're living with you now So they won't run away. Also, I've heard it's generally bad to give your cat only dry food. You have to have a bit of wet (you know, the greasy meat stuff) and a bit of dry litter. Cats like it all separated, so don't mixture wet and dry, or it'll all be wet. My cats only like dry food. Get a trash can that you need to step on to open it. One of my cats figured out how to open the lid to our slide lid trash can. Toys.. cat nip.. gets em wild and string will do.. and balls, jingly, fuzzy whatever. ^_^ Name it Geddy!! _______________ Axion - Yeah. |

hehe too bad you dont live by me because i could give you one right now. youll need buy cat litter and a box of some sort. possibly some toys too. and you should probably buy both dry and wet cat food. you can pretty much get a kitten anywhere it just depends on how much you want to spend. pet stores, animal shelters, and ads in the paper pretty much offer the same thing except the prices differ. i cant say which is cheaper. you'll just have to research. _______________ "We keep odd hours...." ----------------------- They Live, We Sleep |
