Hey, i just watched I-Robot and i was really impressed, its a very very good movie, Will Smith looks extra Buff in this movie. it appears he returned to a Gym before shooting this movie. Anyway i was wondering for those people that have seen it, what did u think to the whole AI taking over Humans ( or should i say Protecting humans by killing threats to AI ). I thought it was a brilliant story and it has strong points to warn us about advanced AI. Anyway i thought i would start this thread for people to Discuss it ![]() _______________ If you add me to MSN, tell me who you are ![]() Best Movie Character EVER!! The movie premiered in Madison Square Garden in New York. That evening, I was staying in a hotel quite near Madison. Unfortunately it was all sold out. I still have to see it. For some good Will Smith movies; Men In Black (the original), Ali, Enemy of the State. |

over any AI movie i consider the matrix story the best.humans made robots to be exactly like humans,so when one robot didnt want to die he protected himself and killed his master in self defense! because he didnt want to die!!.so they said, all robots are evil they must die! but the robots tried to make peace by sending the robot leaders to the UN but they were jumped and killed.thus the master war against the machines. _______________ Free Tibet! I believe that they set themselves up for a secual. Sonny is now the robot leader, and he's has his own free will. With that, they will all follow him, and despite there better programming, harm humans, therefor i believe there will be a We, robot, or somecrap like that, where the robots try to take over the world -Dice P.S. i think will will again save the day, and protect humainty from becoming slaves _______________ Dicemaster |

Quote: Anyway, on a practical scale, I think the movie bears no relevance to today or tomorrow ![]() it's a metaphor my friend ![]() freedom is a very complex thing and as the movie makes a point of..."protection" can hurt or harm that freedom just as much as it can ensure or protect it. clever little movie though. _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! |

Quote: i think they ripped some of the story off of the animatrix. robto kills some 1, he on trial , hen the robots own every1. kinda ripping it off. I think you should remember that the movie is based on a series of books which was first published in 1950. |

::Kind of a SPOILER:: Quote: ::Spoilers:: But what I want to know is what's going to happen after the end. It seems that the robots now have some sort of savior to guide them. Would they go on to have some sort of robot society? We've seen that the advanced AI can "evolve" and advance on its own. Given some time and help from Sonny, they might be able to advance to the same stage he was at. Perhaps they'd even create newer and more advanced AI on their own that follows the design of Sonny's system. Seeing how good-natured Sonny is, it'd turn out quite well. ::End Spoilers:: ::Still kind of a SPOILER:: I totally think that the robots would create some kind of society. And further more, I'm sure there would end up being a war between humans and robots, since all the robots were ordered to be destroyed and nobody trusted them. Probably end up having a "Terminator" ending. ![]() _______________ - Proud padawan of Kueller. - We really are at the beginning of it all. Robots would star to co-exist with humans I think. And yea the movie was suggested by Asimov's shorty story. The ending is different though. _______________ "Do or do not, there is no try" Jedi Master Yoda Dual Saberist |

Haven't seen it, but fans of the novel hate it. I will probably wait for the video. I do think Will Smith is talented, but he (usually) casts his pearls before swine. Most of the movies he has been in are utterly unworthy of him. FYI, Asimov wrote a whole long series of novels about robots. In it, their "positronic brains" were built in such a way that they had to obey three laws, the first of which was never to harm a human, nor through omission of action allow one to be harmed. Their brains were built in such a way that this programming was ingrained in them, and if they disobeyed they would malfunction and never work again. The robots became gradually more sophisticated and begin refining their own design, ever in the service of the humans. As they became more powerful, they essentially enslaved humanity in a sort of Brave-New-World style police state, all in the name of protecting humans from their own folly. Then as the robots grew ever more sophisticated, they came to understand how humans cherish liberty and free will, developing a more sophisticated understanding of what it means to "harm" humans. Then they decided that protecting us from all harm at the expense of depriving us of our freedom was actually the greater harm, and they realized that the only way to prevent that from happening again was for the robots to step out of the picture completely, which they did. _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. |

I very much agree with the whole concept of robots actually evolving outside of their original programming. (BTW the robots weren't necessarily taking over humans, they were trying to protect them in a sense.) And I also caught those strong points about advanced AI. We can't get too far ahead of ourselves. The more we try to "play God," the worse it's going to get. We do need machines though, no matter how big or how small, mankind has evolved to become too dependant on them. We just need to know when to stop. We need to keep humans in charge and more importantly "in the loop." That's my 2 cents for now. _______________ - Proud padawan of Kueller. - We really are at the beginning of it all.
