Sorry to hear about your dog MoS, I think my dog has cancer as well, not sure though.
As far as pets go, particularly dogs & cats, they turn out as well as you treat them when they're young, just like children. My 1st cat, Willy, I used to torture him with the vacuum cleaner and he would freak out whenever you opened the closet door where the vacuum was. He was just a real mean SOB, he bit and scratched me numerous times. My cat after that, Felix, was very different. I was older when I had him as my pet and treated him a lot better. He was very gentle, never bit or scratched me or ne1. Sure he was very independent, cats are just that way. But the key was treating him with love and affection instead of chasing after him with the vacuum or whatever. well, I used to have two cats. but since these animals tend to get on ur nerves, I dont regret their death. our neighbours cat comes round from time to time, and its kinda nice. hug it when u like, kick it out when u're done

My family has 10 cats,i cant stand it,they walk around putting there tails on our dishes,jumping every where throwing up everywhere,not to mention knocking everyhting down and breaking everyhting,WTF AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!and we have 1 dog,hes smarter then a stupid-ass cat,he doesnt beak anything he doesnt put his tail on and in our food.My familys 10 cats will sit infront of your door,wait till you open it,and run under your bed,bite your feet,scratch at you,CRAP everywhere  BARF everywhere CATS ARE SICK disgusting creatues AAAAAAAAaaaaHHHHHH!!! I had a toy poodle from when I was 1 and a half or something. He'd out lived all other dogs we had and most of his children as well. He even survived getting hit by a car and the only effect was that he couldn't run or jump anymore and had a bit of a limp. He lived to be 18. The last few days of his life he would wimper body would go limp, lose control of functions and stop breathing. A few minutes later he would be alive again. It was rather sad, but he was a part of our family. I like cats more than dogs except for the dog I got now. He's a mutt (part black lab, part golden retriever, et. al) and just to most lovable animal I've ever met. His name is Bear as in Teddy, not Grizzly! Unfortunately, he's like 12-13yo and has trouble walking now. I have to carry him up/dwn the stairs and sometimes have to pick him up when he wants to walk around. I thought about putting him down but he's not in pain or anything. Plus, when he looks at you, he gives you those "puppy eyes" and I coudn't even imagine doing it. I'm gonna be an emotional wreck when its his time.
