Hey all. For the next few days I'll be quasi blogging my experiences at the CPL. I'm sure most of you don't game competitively, much less for money (just like me  ). So we'll see where this goes. Here's the background info. The company I work for recently became the CPL's network sponsor. This means their website run on servers we provide running in our datacenter, as do CAL's web and game servers, and the venerable Adrenaline Vault. We also happen to host a big chunk of the game industry with things like this web server (my one free employee colo ), orion's game community, echo network, and a few zillion pub servers and server providers. We're branching out into the gaming/network/serving industry itself, and I'm along for the ride as a developer. Cool stuff, eh? No more tech support! So anyhow being a CPL sponsor we get a booth at the CPL summer event to pitch our product to the gaming world. You know who else has booths? Intel, Nvidia, Hitachi, MSI, Shuttle, and about a dozen other really high power and out there companies. It's really weird being in this kind of company. This is being held at the Gaylord Texan Resort Hotel. This place is huge. They combined about 4 very large conference centers for the CPL event. I'd say its about the size of an (American) football field in here. There's a section for the official tournament, stands for the spectators, a large middle section for sponsor booths, and the BYOC area, which can handle a few thousand PC's fully loaded. In addition to hosting the CPL's servers we also provided core network equipment and are running the BYOC operations center. The Intel booth is the size of a concert venue. It's got a concert stage and is littered with PC's containing all sorts of high powered goodies. Nvidia's has about 30 pc's in a LAN party array, each with 6800's, gobs of ram and stupid fast processors. Hitachi's booth is shaped like a house and has at least 7 or 8 plasma screens in it. They also have DDR there. I'll spend my breaks in the Hitachi booth probably. I call this Day 0 because we spent all our time today setting our booth and the BYOC NOC up today. The event starts tomorrow. I daresay our setup is pimp tight. I have to admit I don't hold competitive gamers in high esteem. I expect this to be 5 days of ppl going LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL WTFWTFWTFWTFWTFWTFWTFWTF STFUSTFUSTFUSTFUSTFUSTFU FFSFFSFFSFFSFFSFFSFFSFFSFFS constantly without taking a breath. Anyhow I'm outta here. I have to be there early tomorrow to wrap up last minute details. I'll try to get pics as soon as I can. We may have a public webcam as well. Look out for me! Nite nite all. Also, Edgenetwork, is hosted by TP, my other gamin communities website was hosted by them, until their server was compromised, and we moved to our own dedicated machines.
