God I'm exhausted. I think I've been running on adrenaline and caffene since 9am this morning. We hit the ground running tying up loose ends then attempting to tie up extremely huge loose ends. I got to work with the Hitachi folks getting their network connections and CS servers set up. They have a WICKED cool setup in their control center for their booths. Remember they were the ones with sync'd 7 or 8 plasma screens showing DVD's.  Day 1 was registration day. All the teams got their access badges, signed up for their tournament slots, and the majority of the BYOC was filled up. Filled up with about 1000 computers. I mean this is a giant LAN. GIANT. Super Huge. Ginormous. I think that those with a regular computer case (one without a window mod, bunches of stickers, lights, blinking things, or looks like its falling apart) are laughed out of the CPL, because EVERY case was covered in all manner of crap. I even found one guy who's case had been modded to include a gamecube inside. How neat is that? It seems along with running the BYOC NOC we got "convinced" to be the BYOC's tech support as well. It's like phone support, only without the phone. People have come up to the NOC with all sorts of weird stuff. I've seen at least 3 fried motherboards, a dozen bad switches*, 10 Sasser worm spreaders, and god knows how many times I asked a guy to run ipconfig. We did alot of running back and forth today. It was fun and aside form the day one outages and jitters it went smooth as possible. Our booth did really well. Everyone loves the little glowing disc stuff we're giving out. We're also right now the only booth with booth babes (read: ladies from work wearing shirts that are too small for them). That and the couches kept ppl flocking to our booth. TAKE THAT MSI!! YOUR BOOTH SUCKS!  I got a break and a chance to scout around for free goodies. I snagged up a few free shirts, a bandana, and one of those little external blinking light things that Antec sells. Now my iBook is the cock of the wok in the byoc noc! HOOHAH! Some lucky bastard won a 6800GT today. I think I'll try to win the next one tomorrow.  Who here likes Evanescence? Golly I sure don't! They are the epitome of youth angst pseudo goth/emo crap. The intel stage actually got used as a stage today with a band that sounded worse than them. I was hoping their band would rock. They did nothing of the sort. What's worse they were loud. LOUD. You know how hard it is to tell a guy how to change his NIC duplex settings with this constant stream of offensively mundane offal pumpung out of every speaker in the house? I sucks. Oh. Their drummer played behind a plexiglass wall, kindof separated form the rest of the band. I figure this is when people are ripping monitors off the walls and heaving them at the band along with lit cigarettes, ice cubes, razor blades, telletubbies, siamese kittens, micro machines, and crucifixes they can at least keep a beat. I see a trend forming here. I was sent home at 11:30 and I'll be back again at 9am. Only this time I'll have 4 days worth of clothes with me. I'll be living in the lap of luxury in a Gaylord suite! *giggle* See ya then! Oh yeah. I whine alot, but this is really an amading experience. Gamers are near the low end of the food chain when it comes to computer users, but it's cool to see them all together doing their thing. I like how we're holding up against all these big companies. We're marketing ourselves like theres no tomorrow. Hopefully this will do well for us. * I have no problem if a kid wants to help the CPL out and lay down some cable. I do have a problem if said kid has absolutely no clue what he or she is doing. Most of what we did today was tracing, marking, and recrimping cvables that were either not crimped at all, not wired correctly, not ended at all, etc etc. Learn how to do it before you decide to wire a giant LAN. Oh yeah. Invest in a cable tester too. _______________ My car is made of Nerf. |
