The problem is, some people can not differentiate or separate in their minds fiction and fact. Or 'computer game' and 'reality'. When this happens, they start to think that they can do what happens in a video game or movie and get away with it as they do in the game. That's where the problem starts. Its down to the computer games and the movies alright - but its not the developer's fault. If you can't differentiate successfully, you shouldn't be playing it. _______________ Website |

Actually I really enjoyed the game. Its a hard game and takes some skill to get through some of the levels properly. The game is loosely based on a movie of the same name. One of the reasons I enjoyed the game was because it reminds me of a movie called The Naked Prey. Its about a hunter in the 1850's in Africa. His hunting party is caught and murdered by a local tribe. His punishment though is supposed to be much worse. Instead of being killed he is stripped naked and allowed a head start into the wilds of Africa while being chased by the 10 best hunters in the village. So all through out the movie the guy must out smart and hunt down the men after him. This movie reminds me of manhunt. In the game you are supposedly given a punishment worse then death. You start off with no weapons and must survive on skill. You have to be quiet, patient, and aggressive to get the job done in that game. Plus I also enjoy the fact that the main villan in the game is just a rich movie producer who gets off on elabrate snuff films that he and his social elite friends probably chill out and watch while eating popcorn. The game is not for everyone of course. It's voilent for voilents sake. Even the game play gets repetative and tiresome. I still enjoy the boldness of this game. I think rockstar was trying to make more of a movie then a game. They were trying to make a phsycological experiance for the player. I'm not even really going to comment on the link between voilence and video games. That arguement has been around all through out the 20th century with music, movies, books, and television. Games are just the newest one to join the arguement. So far there has not been much scientific proof to make a link between voilence and media. Evey thing should be looked at an individual level. Some people are just proned to voilence and are drawn to an outlet. And some people will mimick what they see, hear or read. I'm sure every year there are a few supposed "star crossed lovers" that comit suicide togther mimicking Romeo and Juiliet. Doesn't mean that we should yank Shakespeare of the selves and stop teaching it in schools. The world shouldn't become a safe plastic Fischer Price version of it's self just because of people who can not funtion in society. _______________ "We keep odd hours...." ----------------------- They Live, We Sleep |

First of all...i completly agree with Odan =) Ur the man heh Ive played this game thro and i have to say that its one of the worst gamez ive ever played. No it AINT bad coz of the damn violance. Its because of the nonsense in this whole violance...its not even completly justified. For example...Soldier of Fortune 2 is very violant...but it has been bound to a context and there is somethin like moral in that game. In Manhut a human is just degrated to a slauther cattle...nothin more nothin less. Its pretty bad what a great firm like Rockstar North can develope...and pretty bad what a great publisher like Take Two can support >_> _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! The game was actually pretty lame. All it focused on was shock factor, and I wasn't very surprised. I never finished the game (I think I stopped on the second or third level) because it got so boring. I really can't see how anyone could become "obsessed" with such a turd of a game like Manhunt. _______________ When great gentlemens come together in a place. It could happen. Quote: This guy had major issues and the game just revealed them. Then maybe the game never should've been made...I mean, WTF is the point in making a game like this? What does it give the person who will play it? It's just about killing, and I honestly can't see any fun in that. Moreover, it's a singleplayer only game, right? So there's nothing social about it. This didn't come as a surprise at all, but I'm disgusted by this story. EDIT: Oh, and what disgusts me even more, is that this guy's lawyer will probably reduce his sentance by a couple of decades because of his "psychological issues". _______________ In the navy and LOVING it! ![]() Recipient of comment no. 1000 and heart-warming words from Ataris! ![]() This comment was edited by Thomasooo on Jul 30 2004 03:13pm. |

Jenko, what ever the content, it's a game, not the reality. If one is unable to distinguish the game from RL then this person has psychological if not psychatric issues. As Obi said, you can't blame a game for the evil deeds of a player in RL. In GTA for example, you can become a crimelord by killing people, selling drugs and stuff. I don't think every single person who played that game is now a dealer or a murderer. I a way it reminds me a story in France about an adolescent stabbing one of his teacher repeatedly yelling 'I am Aragorn!'. It was like 8 years ago. This guy was involved in RPGs and lost his mind, but RPGs have been pointed at as evil games, that make people crazy. I've been a RP gamer since I was 13 and I never felt an urge to rape/kill/misbehave. I know the difference between a game and the RL. But some don't, it can happen to a guy who watches a movie and decides that RL should be like the movie. This is called being psychotic. Nothing provokes that it's something that appears during your life because of traumas and predispositions. Saying that a particulat thing or activity is the cause is just a way to refuse the reality of the facts. This guy had major issues and the game just revealed them. So, whatever the content of a book/movie/game, if you act like a psycho it's not because of the things you read, it's because you are somewhat a psycho. _______________ Padawan and brother to SmilyKrazy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Virtue, Furi0us, Vladarion, Hardwired, Janus, Axion, D@RtHM@UL, Motrec, Mike , xAnAtOs , Luke Skywalker; Little bro to SilkMonkey ; Special kind of brother to Kenyon ; Sisters in-law: Rosered, Ain-Soph Aur] Photoshop works: click here |

i jsut half to say. games are not the reason to blame violence on. there are very few exceptions due to age , and influence on the young mind. This comment was edited by Cheta T. Must on Jul 29 2004 09:02pm. |

Ok, this kinda pisses me off. People are always trying to move blame around. Lets look at some facts we can pull from the article. 1.) The older boy was 17, the younger one 14. There is a very large different in age/maturity there (normally) If your 17 your either a Junior or Senior in High School, where as a 14 yr old would be like a freshman. That is a bit weird 2.) He is OBSESSED with a video game. Who cares what it is, a 17 years old is obsessed with any activity that keeps him locked in his room alone (well except maybe that one activity ![]() I would say that anyone capable or murdering someone ( especially in that manner ) has some seriosu issues, and the video DID NOT CAUSE THEM, if anything it acted as a catalyst, and even that I dont think people can bitch about, because if it wasnt the video game it would have been something else. _______________ Silent Bob (Kevin Smith): You know, there's a million fine looking women in the world, dude.
