hello again, 3th here with another somewhat useless movie review. yesterday i traveled back to the year 1897 only to find my $5.50 was still worthless.

the acting was brilliant and amazing, but the pace of the first 30--45 mins of the movie was like watching snails race. i think this was intentional as a part of the set-up for the movie, but i don't want to spoil anything. i would guess that most people here in the JA wouldn't enjoy the movie very much (not to assume too much about your movie preferences, but chances are you're more of an Epire Strikes Back fan than Remains of the Day). if you’re a big fan of his other movies and also love period pieces, long on elegant character development with elegantly woven themes of love and hope then you will probably like the movie. it really isn't a bad movie by any means, it's just not quite the thriller one might expect from Shaylaman.

go see the manchurian candidate or the bourne sequel instead if you're looking for some action and intrigue. (although i've not seen either yet.)

I saw this movie today. I got pretty bored with the plot like halfway through :\. And I totally didnt get the ending, it was weird. Plus Ivy never told Lewhatever what his color was, or else I missed it. But yeah, I didnt like this movie too much

i agree with those of you who enjoyed the movie. i do think it is an elegantly simple movie (but not simplistic mind you). and i can see where it can be greatly enjoyed for that. like i said before, the acting was supurb IMO. but i guess i was expecting more out of Shaylaman, which is probably exactly why he did try to reduce this movie to the essential components to make a good movie. i enjoy it more intellectually rather than viscerally, which to me a really good movie hits you both in the gut and the mind. which i felt this one was lacking a strong gut punch. just my opinions of course :)

I thought the movie was good. There were a few seens that lasted about 5 minutes that would have been ok lasting about 1. I went to the movie honestly not seeing or knowing anything about it, except the movie trailer. I had heard nothing. I saw it, and about half way threw was thinking....WTF, it was just strange, lots of unexpected twists for me, cuz i knew nothing about it. Overall i think it was better seeing it not knowing what was going on, then knowing lots about it. Also, i thought it was not his worst movie, i loved sixth sence and Signs, did not like unbreakable at all. I think this movie goes right above unbreakable.

P.S. remember these are my personal opionions from simply watching the movie, not from a movie expert side. I try not to look to deeply into how the movie was done, i just watch it and see how i enjoyed it.

I'm going to try and hammer out a solid review 3th, I too saw it this weekend. I think it was good, but it was his worst movie, if that makes any sense. The quality of Sixth Sense and Unbreakable(I loved it, I'm a comic dork) we're much better compared to the story ideas of Signs(which wasn't as good as the first two but was still enjoyed), and The Village.

One of the mistakes they made with this movie was the twist. Usually with his movies they don't bring up the fact there is a twist. Reviewers and such keep it cool, and bam, it hits you like a ton of bricks. For The Village, it kind of was expected. I don't know, I liked it, but thought it could have been better with different elements switched.

I think the movie was a little slow myself, however I really liked the movie. Could have been a little more chilling too. The trailer and all the advertisements built it up to make it look totally intense, but it realy wasn't that bad. :)

I thought The Bourne Supremacy was very good. I was surprised that it was only a 2 hour movie after I left the theater. So yeah, go see it instead of the village :P

Yup, nice storyline but too predictable if you're looking out for the twist.
You can tell Shyamalan was influenced by Hitchcock heh.
