Ladies and gentleman of the Jedi Academy, it is I, your leader, massadoobie, here to present to you the state of the Academy. Well, the last couple days have been rather interesting, to say the least. Going back to when L-Rod left, there's been a lot of stuff going on, some of it good, some of it bad. On the good side we've had a few promotions in the trainers ranks (Zero to Mentor, Avalon to Council), cHoSeN-oNe becoming Supreme Chancellor (although the dark side clouds his future...  , we've launched our learner and journeyman trials (and finally gotten the site updated to match), we've added another Huxley server, and we've taught a lot of good people civility and skill.
On the bad side, there have been entirely too many arguments lately. Students fighting with students, students fighting with trainers, trainers fighting with trainers, all sorts of stupid petty crap. It's time to put a stop to all of this. From now on, if any JACs or JATs see you arguing without even trying to set your egos or whatever aside to settle the argument, you will receive a warning. Yes, that seems strict considering you only get two warnings, but to be honest, all this fighting is over stupid stuff. Also, the Council and the Trainers will be having a meeting tomorrow to discuss, amongst other things, trainer conduct. I know this is a big concern for a lot of you, and it is for us as well. Furthermore (don't you love those connecting words you learned in English class?), we're in the process of analyzing the ranking structure to see if we can improve things. Although sometimes it may not seem like it, we do read almost all of the comments made on newsposts and sent to us via email, and there have been a lot of good ideas tossed about. Our job now is to take those ideas, mold them so that they can apply best to the JA, and implement them (quickly). A few things for everyone to look out for. We're going to be having new JATs very soon. Six JATs just isn't enough. We're also going to be doing the aforementioned ranking structure changes... more details on that when we actually have them. Knight trials will be coming soon as well (although remember that you have to be recommended by a JAC or JAT to receive a knight trial). Someday, eventually, hopefully, Derelict Crusader will finish the Jedi Academy Map, version 2.0. To finish this off, I'd like to make a plea to all of you. One of the main objectives when we started the Academy was to have a place where maturity and respect would reign above all else. For the most part I feel as though we've acheived this objective. I have been truly impressed by the maturity level, civility, and respect a majority of our members show towards one another. However of late that has been missing a bit. What I would like is for every member of the Academy, from the Council on down through to the newest Initiate, to take a look at themselves and how they treat the other members. If you see yourself treating others without the respect that they deserve as people (even if you don't personally respect them), then you have two choices. One, you can (and I recommend this) try and fix your attitude towards others and see if you can turn the other cheek and treat everyone with respect. Or two... You can leave the Academy. It's that simple. To be honest, we don't want you here if you're going to be rude, disruptive, ego-driven, or disrespectful to ANYONE (and that includes everyone, including our favorite Scot JumpinJedi... I point out his name only because he seems to be a lightning rod for trouble... some of it deserved, some of it not. But he's a prime example of someone who has turned the other cheek (most of the time) and whom a lot of others must turn the other cheek about). Along the same lines, I must make an apology to anyone I offended with my post about the Knights Council earlier. Although I didn't mean it negatively when I said some people wanted power they didn't deserve, I can see how people could misconstrue that as being a slap in the face. So to those people, I'm sorry. I agree with the Knights council thing. I'm not trying to be cocky or whatever the word i'm looking for is, but i feel that I would really like power, and if you gave me that power(with the constant threat of taking it away if i screwed up) i would be a little better at keeping peace then a JAT because JAT's don't have that threat and sometimes screw around. Anyway i dunno if you guys have even considered this idea but it is a great idea for this place and i really think you should take it into consideration _______________ Dicemaster |

Thanks, massadoobie. I never want to be the one to comment on such immaturity. Takes more courage than I might have.
But all this is right. It's really up to each person to make this a more mature place. With my looking through the ranks, I am thankful that the ranks at least ask questions that may reflect maturity. I do wish that advancement relies more on how one displays their experience. I don't know about you, but I don't want to be around an immature Knight. But yes, this is how I feel. My journal reflects that there is more to the Academy, in all maturity. And in truth, I have been really ticked off at some of the immaturity. I am glad I did not depart the Academy from such acts. I am also glad I did not complain either. This is a good place, I'd hate to have a fun time at the Academy ruined, but this has been a serious issue for me, and I am glad it is being addressed. and seriously, i'm glad you guys up there know what's going on at the shop-floor level and are trying your best to improve this wonderful place that is the Jedi Academy. I also agree with having some people enforce the law on the servers, although this might be hard to accomplish. but i won't repeat what everyone here already said. Great speech massadoobie! that was one of themost moving *soob* speaches i have ever heard... well on a more serious note i agree that there arn't enough people enforcing things.If possible (though it sounds very hard. you should have one jat on at all times. that way students can report problems and things can stay controlled on at least one server. Though the students are also a proble m. Today on the ks server i saw people firing rocets at eachother inside because of an argument. If everyone jac's jat's and students followed the rules we wouldn't have these problems. and finally jat's learners and j men need to remem ber that they arn't that much above the ;aw jats have power but learners and j men are students and have no real added power besides there overall skill and doobie great speech. ;-) _______________ "this is Icco. This post has answered a few questions I've had about the JA as of late and really made me feel better. I was a little worried about the direction the JA was headed when it came to respect. Now I realize you do plan to fix this problem. I am definately relieved. You are also correct about the fact that its not just one group who is beind disrespectful lately. I have witnessed some of the simple arguments, and just rude things, between students, and trainers. So I'm glad you're addressing the entire problem and not assuming it is one group. I do agree with Aeth in the fact that there needs to be people online with power most of the time, but thats a little hard to do. Especially when some of the people with power don't use it correctly. Its not an easy thing to keep a group of people this large at a high maturity level without the person who runs it online all of the time, and that is obviously impossible. But just making an attempt at it will help some, and any help is good. ok... that was long winded. lol... see ya on the servers ppl. later. _______________ A man asked me for a dollar, and I asked him what its for. nice speech! well, my personal suggestion would be to have more law-enforcers. we need more people who are really regulary online (some EUs too!) to keep the order on the servers. i would recommend the Knights, as there will be soon several finishers (i hope). they could built a JA-Knight-Council, an order to keep the peace on the servers. they should have admin rights to kill, kick and even ban people.
