Good comment of the day... -doobie - Dec 09 06:39pm

I think I'm going to start highlighting the good posts I see around the site on the news page. So to start that off, I saw this one from a few days ago that Vaughn posted on the "Are you guys a clan" FAQ page. He has some good thoughts on what exactly the Academy is (and no, he's not implying communism as in Soviet communism, he's implying communism as in Marxist, pure communism. Click here for a humorous explanation if you're confused about the difference).

"there are many clans within the academy. I am starting to belive that The academy is not a clan or a klan, or a cult... but a community. Think of it as an olden style town. In this town, there are 3 different types of people. The elders (council), the parents (JAT's/JAStaff), and then the children (JAS/JAK). While the parents may be doing their own thing with the elders (meetings), the children are all out having fun. While some children hang out toghether (Clans = gangs?), there may be some who are not part of these groups, who are just friends by themselves. These children who are not part of any clans/gangs/cults, are the people without any tags other than (JAS) or (JAK).

To be part of this community/town, you do not have to be part of a clan/gang, you just have to be helpful to people, no matter who they are, and nice to everyone, from the academy or not. What I am trying to get at, is that the academy relies on respect and friendship. Without these, the academy would be non existant.

I dont know if people like the ideals of communism, but in the ideal communism, people are equal. If the academy was perfect, it would be more like the ideal communist town, however it is not yet perfect. Therefore, it is stuctured more like a democrocy, or monarchy where people can advance (not anarchy >:( ). This is to help everybody. The rules would be enforced, and everyone would be or is happy. "

I've known Hector for years, so um, yeah...

He and his family are the epitomy of anal retentiveness. Don't go head to head with him, I've had far too much brain damage from such endeavors.

But other than that, I will keep this short, yay!

"Jedi Knight II will die out sometime. Yes, it will, maybe not for years.

"But then what did the academy give you? Ability to play an obsolete game really well?"

Well, _I_ will die sometime, hopefully not for many years. Everything I am will be gone except in memory. What will my time here have given me? I enjoy it all in the here and now because that's all we get.

On the nature of the Force, I'd just like to say that it is not energy, notwithstanding Obi Wan's simplified description of it as "an energy field." This is significant because _everything_ in the physical universe is energy (modern physics doesn't really distinguish between matter and energy and even defines "mass" as "rest energy";).

Energy and matter must play by certain rules. Yoda used the Force to lift Luke's ship off the ground, yet the equal and opposite force required by Newton's 3rd Law didn't cause Yoda to sink ten meters into the soft ground of the swamp. So the Force is not energy, but stands apart in the universe. It's just the Force, whatever that is.

i am a bit of a philosipher myself, though not
very good at it, so be warned what follows may be a good idea, but it might just be the
stupidest thing you've ever read.

If the force really is part of everything that exists
thencould it be that the force is actually
existance itself? then those who manipulate the
force are really manipulating existance, not
just a rock or a tree. this forces a jedi to
consider the many effects of his actions.
the darkside then would be destroying that
which fits or has purpouse because we know that
matter cannot be created or destroyed. so by
taking apart something something something else
is made (ie you take apart a lego ship you make
a mess). This means that destroying that which
works (a needless task) you risk upsetting the
balance and function of the universe, a truly
evil deed. however, by destroying something that
does not belong, you are doing a good deed.
so this means that light and dark are not really
destruction vs construction but rather balance
and effectivness vs distortion and waste.

(sorry if this is not a new idea to any of you)

Well put.

For me, this Academy develops two things:
Skill in the game
Skill in life

In truth, I am amazed at some of the things that I am better at in life, because I really took the Academy as more than a game. I'm nicer to jerky people in real life, because I try to be nice to jerk in the Academy. But that's an example.

If we really try to draw some of the personality things we use at the Academy back into our real lives, we can be great people.

That's what I aim to do.

Warning: next part may be shock, don't read if you are prone to heart failure.

Jedi Knight II will die out sometime. Yes, it will, maybe not for years.

But then what did the academy give you? Ability to play an obsolete game really well?

If that is all I thought the Academy could give me or give others, I would have left already. I know it can give me more, so it can probably give others more than just skills manipulating a keyboard and mouse.

So, well, everyone should work on developing the person looking at the computer screen, be that yourselves, your friend, a stranger or an enemy. Because when the computer turns off, or the server crashes, we are still all real people, and I hope the Academy can help you grow in those endeavors too, to be ready for the trials in the Academy, and the trials in real life.

But another long post of mine. Gah...I should just take some beer and say something simple in a post, like...

lol ;)

This may be true, but then if it is, why is the Force defined by such crude boundaries? I mean, i kno its only a story line, but imagine it as reality for the moment...

The one thing to bind us all, to create as well as destroy everything, the one truth that we can all relate to is defined by lightning, air and movement. If we are to relate to the Force as a reality, we must look past its cude mask...

The same as if we are to be in this academy...now, i know its only a game, but at least let me finish...

In reality, we view rudeness, arrogance etc as a form of evil. The same goes here, and all in all this should be what drives us lot to act well. the problem is, life, like all things, is flawed. As this is only a game though, take time to thing about how your life is affecting others in the academy as well as the rest of the world. Someone you may not even know may be affected by your stupidity or (i'm raving on now) a small mistake you've made. So think before you act within the walls of this place, as well as in the open world, and follow the guidance the JACs give you (note to all n00bs,rebels and loonatics out there) to find peace within yourself and others. I'm not actually finished but i'll shuddup now :)

aw hell, i'm late for class...

(Edit: Turns out i aint late for class but i wont continue to waste your precious webspace :)

One Force...

I'd like to enrich this philosophic discussion by telling you the words of the great Roman emperor/philosopher Marcus Aurelius (150 AC): (translated from Latin to Dutch, to English)

Everything is woven together. That is a holy connection and there is practically nothing that hasn't got something to do with something else. For all things are united into one order and form together one kosmos. For there is one kosmos, composed of all that is, and one God who penetrates all and one matter, one law, the Ratio, the reason, which all reasonable creatures have in common, and one truth, if there is indeed one form of completeness for all beings who are connected and share in the same reason.

I think that this Marcus could have been the first observer and researcher of the Force. He only didn't know yet that his Ratio that connects everything is called The Force!
I think these words are like a definition of the Force and that we should live by it in the academy. All academy rules can be extracted from this base.

Yeah, with my patience writing...I'm working on more.

I'll put my writing on humility up....

When I think it's good enough.

Ah...lol....
Can't believe I thought that up on accident.
If you don't get what I'm laughing at, well, I'm laughing at you then.

But Vaughn has some good writings though, this is one of them.
