Caulk: Lets say you have a map that is just a room, no doors, nothing, just a box with an info_player_start in it. When you load it up, you will be able to see all of the textures you have put on your walls and celing and stuff. But the JO engine also draws the textures on the other sides of the wall aswell, even though the player will never be able to see them, this will use alot of your comps valuable resources which can cause lag, delay, long loading times and general degraded performance. This is what Caulk is for, basically, whenever you make a Brush, texture it entirely with Caulk, then when you have made the room, texture only the surfaces that a player will be able to see (CTRL+Shift+Click to select a surface of a brush). This will make any surface that the player will never be able to see invisible, therefore saving alot of resources and generally making the game run alot faster with minimal Lag. A Good Tutorial and explination of the use of Caulk can be found here: http://richdiesal.jedioutcastmaps.com/tutorials/gc102lsn1.html Detail Brushes: If you make a Brush into a detail brush, it will render itself invisible to the Vis process (bsp compile) and therefore the map will compile much faster. It is also good for fixing light problems, as if you have an outside area with a skybox that connects to an inside area via a door, you can sometimes get horrid looking boxy shadows (as func_doors are also invisible to the vis process, therefor the light will shine right through them even though there is a door to block it). Warning: Do NOT make ANY brush that touches the void (IE. Walls, Celings etc.) into a Detail Brush, as it will be rendered invisible to the Compile and therefor create a leak in your Map. yeah Cmad you have to right click and click on light entity, then press n, light, enter, the amount, 1-1000, some sky textures under skies may also brighten it up a bit, like kejim light.
