FreeBSD is not Linux, so there is lots of new things to learn. Like the configuration setup, with the 'rc' files, the command structure for even the 'ls' 'mv' and 'cp' commands is different, and there is no pretty colors (by default) in 'ls' What I'd reccomend is grabbing a book from the library, or from a bookstore, that includes one of the last releases of FReeBSD and as a nice thick manual on how to setup everything. Once you get the foundation for how each of the Unices (Unix Flavors) are different, you can pretty much move around all of them with not too much trouble. Initially, Setting up FreeBSD might look a lot different from Linux's setup, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be ok. |

How difficult is FreeBSD to set up? I'm setting up a little Apache/firewall box in a bit and I'd like something thats really secure to make my life a little easier. Support for my current distrobution is nicely done and centralized ( http://www.gentoo.org ). Does a similar community exist for the *BSD? |
