The Academy has been here for several years now, and its all (mostly) because of a little game called Jedi Knight. Now that much i'm sure you could of guessed. It began with the Dark Forces I & II games, the second one being the first Jedi Knight. Which was indeed an awesome game. When Jedi Knight 2 was made it was the beginning of a new era for star wars gamers and somewhere along the line, a small group of gamers formed together, after meeting on a forum, and created The Jedi Academy. Eventually Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy was made and was implemented carefully into the already vast community. And so we come to the present day, thousands of members, 2 games on the trot at once which are both played a large amount. However, a lot of newer gamers are getting bored or irritated. JK2 was awesome, a revelation... but younger gamers or newbies to the series sometimes find it a bit clunkier than JK3. JK3 is more like a pop idol version of Jedi Outcast, with bits of tack here and there that somehow hold it together and make it playable. The Academy has a great mod made by Chosen One that makes the game oh so much more playable. This does not deter from the fact that, lets face it, we're getting a little bored of the current Jedi Knight games. Its not that we're tired of them, its just we've found all the exploits, found all the glitches, found all the secrets to the game, mastered every single possible stance and saber-type. We're all aching for that feeling we got when Jedi Academy came out and that new feel about the game and the action. So we want it again... ...This brings about a common question. Will there be a Jedi Knight 4? Jedi Knight 4? The only current problem with the answer is that Raven is keeping their mouths shut. All i've managed to dig up is a few "no comment" replies and a load of rumours that bounce around a few major gaming forums. So, we end up at that situation where people can't get answers, so they make their own up. I've read a few interviews recently and I can never find a single one that has the question "What about a Jedi Knight 4?" that is actually followed up with a straight answer, to be honest its looking dim. It is understandable, Raven can't reveal its plans for the future. So all we can do is sit and wait! Lets think about it though, what could they put into JK4 that would make it worth the effort. If they did anything to the game, it would ruin it. There isn't much you could put into the game that wouldn't make it a different game altogether, it would be as big a change as going from Dark Forces 1 to Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. That is something i don't think we could handle. Change is good but are we ready? I havn't found many sources or evidence so you'll have to take my word or do your own research. In short, I think that there won't be a Jedi Knight 4. Its too much, they could ruin the series. What could be done is an expansion pack. If they did that, they could keep the battle system the same but also introduce a few new ideas to the game. I'm not going to pretend I know anything about game design or Raven in particular, but I get the feeling the Jedi Knight series will end at JK3. Which isn't really a bad place to end when you think about it. Alright, heres what little i've managed to dig up! I've not found anything on Lucas Arts own website. Nor anything on Ravens, I asked Orion about this and he said that Raven is not working on JK4 and if they are, then he is not aware of it. Its all down to Lucas Arts. Conclusion I doubt there will be a JK4, we can still keep our eyes peeled, but in the end will it be worth the effort? Do we really want a JK4? What will we gain from it? The best we can do now, is to continue to improve ourselves on JK3... what with Instaaaaaaagibbbbbbbb, as Monkai so rightly put it, being such a fun game mode and many more being created. I'm sure we can find loads of things to fill our appetite. The future may have a game similar to the Jedi Knight series, it could be made by a completely different developer. It might even be better than JK:JO, JK:JA. *dodges projectiles* This is something i did not think i would need to mention, but i will put it in anyway. As we all know, there is an argument floating around as to whether or not Jedi Academy is Jedi Knight 3 or just a standalone add-on for Jedi Outcast. In truth, no-one can say. Raven has, themselves, referred to it as JK3 but this could be by popular influence. In any case, my point was not related to the number. The 4 has no importance, my article was on "THE NEXT JEDI KNIGHT GAME! WILL THERE OR WONT THERE?!" Hope that clears it up.  |

I think LucasArts will bring back the Jedi Knight series once more, it will make them money once they finish with the episode 3 period cash ins, and would be better than a new jedi game as it already has a fanbase. ok lets say they are making jk4 for like 1 year so if they want it to be very cool they must work on it for like 2-3 more years. so why they should announce the game which will be released in 3 years! and do you know any lucas arts or raven games which will be released in 2008? i doubt that just a theory... one of theories... i had 5 mins of free time lol _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. I know you're not trying to get an argument. I also missed your mention of a possible different developer initially. And yeah. no definite answer one way or another. There are also things in companies known as non-disclosure agreements. NDA's mean that employees can't talk about a product or business aspect until that nda is lifted. Thanks The entire thing is just relying on not 100% sources so its not to tell everyone there is no JK4, its merely to state that nothings been mentioned so stop those rumours! Another thing, I can't really see Jedi Academy as being an expansion pack to Jedi Outcast. Its a very stand-a-lone game, you don't need JK2 to play it. I myself was unsure on whether or not to declare it as JK3 but seeing Raven refer to it as the 3rd game was what confirmed my decision. I believe I said something about another developer possibly making a sequel or a game in a similar style. My focus was not on whether or not there would be another jedi game made by anyone else, but whether or not there would be an official JK4 from what resources I managed to get. Which was only really from Raven as no other game developer, to my knowledge, is currently making a game that has any MAJOR link to the JK series. great article Mic I started a similar one in general a little while ago  Overal i think there will be another 'Jedi' game, its likely it will use the name 'Jedi Knight' as well, do i think Raven will develop it? I'm really not sure, but i don't think that is very important overal, Raven did not make the original Dark Forces after all. After all the noise about Epi 3 and the gap upto Epi 4 has died down, LA will look around for other ways to make money with the series, and the only way will be by using the already popular expanded universe, to save time they will look at their back catalogue see KotOR and JK as popular EU series and get someone to make sequals while they come up with other ideas. In my opinion a JK4 would be good, theres no reason this community has to stop playing JK2+3 because a new one has come out, if its no good then merely keep this for those games.
