Okay, a while back Jaiko suggested I hunt down and find L-Rod. One of our oldest members who has recently become a tad more active than usual. So I did, and he agreed to do an interview with me! It was awesome to chat with this guy and I learned a great deal about the Academy! So here it is. Mic Den Octela : Hey L-Rod! I'd like to thank you for taking time out from whatever it is you do to be pestered by me! Lightning Rod : hehe, np dude M : Firstly, whats your real name? L : lol, well, as listed on the site its Rodrigo Rodriguez. M : I thought it was something like that! I'm not very observant am i So.. that explains one part of your JA name.. what about the "Lightning" L : Yeah, a post was created about that not long ago. Origins of our names etc. My name has a few meanings to it i suppose. To name a few Lightning came from way back in jk2 where the current force of the month to use was...lightning and yeah...lrod didnt know how to stop this lightning abuse until boom..i find this lightside setting lol M : hehe thats cool L : absorb was a little different back then....very obvious that someone had it on... then the whole bit of what an actual lightning rod is M : and your name being Rodrigo L : that as well many already know that a lightning rod just creates a way for a lightning bolt to pass...if it struck elsewhere it wouldnt be pretty, etc i considered myself similar to being something like that M : lol L : taking in quite a bit of abuse in duels, etc, you name it never affected me. i just wanted to get better M : Ah yeah... well.. that name sounds like its been through alot! Did you ever have a different name? L : lol sure in the academy probably not, but i ran through a few in ja, like Mr America, etc...hulk hogan like names lol. as jj knows M : JJ knows all L : lmao, indeeeeeeeeeeeeeed M : Hehe. So.. your profile ID is 11 right? Sheesh... when did you join? L : i joined roughly a few days after the academy had started up between jedisith999, djsith and massadoobie responded to a post from jedisith999 on lucasforums for a trial somewhere in 2002 M : Were you apart of the original construction of The Academy? L : somewhat yeah. i took part of a lot of important things as a trainer back then. i even remember teaching the very 1st class lol...one i wasnt even scheduled to teach M : Woah! M : Did the whole thing look good? Or was it something that grew on you? L : well, it kinda grew on me id have to say. slowly M : Hehe.. i get you. You mentioned being a Trainer... So you were a ranked member? L : long long ago....when the dfas would terrify the jedi population lol M : lol L : but yeah, i had been among the very 1st jat M : What was your job? L : making sure everyone who had questions, had answers. if someone requesting training with a stance, i did, or pointed them to someone who could we were in charge of Very specific categories back then M : Ah right L : i only did red stance if i rememeber correctly M : Did you ever have any padawans (or apprentices or whatever it was called back then)? L : the others specialized in blue, yellow lol yeah, over time i had to accept that i had to take at least 1 on i had literally an insane amount of requests to train at that level but i really couldnt train everyone that way, ya know? M : I get you! You had to find someone with the potential.. and hone in on it L : exactly M : Where do you think the JA was headed? L : kinda hard to say back then i had always hoped it would grow into something massive, and it did. but ..i suppose along the way i may not have agreed with its general direction M : Oh? I take it there were times you didn't allways like what was happening L : yeah, i didnt agree with some things that happened M : Do you think your as active as you used to be? L : as for my active level...unfortunately , im not nearly as active as i once was i wish i could be....id reach my skill level that i was at back then again M : I don't think it would take you long, its like riding a bike! L : lol yeah M : What do you do in RL? L : I currently work at IBM as a helpdesk agent M : Ooh.. i'll resist phoning in L : lol yeah even as we speak i get users forgetting their passwords every 10 minutes rotfl M : The Academys gone through alot since the beginning, whats your favourite memory L : fav memory huh? hmm... thats a tough one M : hehe L : ya know i have a certain memory...probably my peak level in skill at the ja. where we had a full server of players all in the matrix room in the old map i was curious , to see how id fare against the server, in a sorta all out last man standing type of setup i actually won too rotfl, twice. the 3rd time they sorta got used to my technique and someone got me with a viscious dfa M : dfa's were godly L : you bet they were, the dfas now barely cut butter lol M : Which was your favourite JK? lol L : game wise id have to say jedi knight 2 jedi knight :jedi academy is nice and all...but it lacks that feeling one would get while playing the previous game that slight adrenaline rush that came along with it M : Aye. I kinda miss JK2. Still.. at least we all got a refresh skill-wise L : hehe M : You mentioned before your personal thing being Red Stance. Did you ever master the other styles or was that your main focus? L : mastering a stance...that i did, and yes of the 3 i had no problem using them. I favored red , because it was a style i chose to pursue. Also depends on how others view the term master when it comes to saber stance. M : I get ya your just uber... L : LOL M : So, did you see alot of Doobie, DJ and js999? (serverwise) L : i did quite a bit back then. js999 was on the most if i remember, then he sorta on went leave for a bit. It mainly because just doobie and dj M : What were they like? Really... lol L : lol, js999 was more into fighting and learning how to get better. Which is how he had his fun. Doobie and Dj...well, they were extremely busy with the server and getting the ja running properly. So whenver i did see them in server, it was mostly the occasional duel and joke to keep laughs up M : Cool... you realise they're just scary now L : i hear things..yeah lol M : Wow... how many years has it been now? Since the academy first opened i mean L : well...we're about to hit 2006 now...and we started back in 2002.. M : 4 then >_> L : id say thats quite a while...looking back i even get a few chills remember some of that like it was yesterday about 4...or close to it M : I know what you mean While im on the topic... how old are you? (if you dont mind me asking) L : 23 M : cool. 6 years older than me! L : lol now i know what dj and doobie meant when they thought they felt old.... M : lol Now, onto a sensitive topic. Do you remember Vladarion? L : Unfortunately Vlad existed during a time in the ja where i had been in long retirement. I never got a chance to actually meet him. Although i wish i had M : Aye. He was before i joined i think. I was unlucky to not get a chance to meet him. From the looks of it a lot where L : yeah, i hear he was a pretty good guy, and i dont doubt it. reading the post created by his wife had me in shock for ...some time its a wake up call to us all, reminding us that our lives are never guaranteed M : I know exactly what you mean... Well I don't want to talk too much about Vladarion, its not something i know a lot about. So what do you think of the current batch of students? L : they're like...newly hatched gremlins! lmao jk M : lol In my opinion they all kick butt. I'm not going to name names but there are loads out there at the moment that make JK3/2 a really hard challenge! L : some of these guys are impressive. the bar certainly has been raised quite a bit since i was around oh yeah, well..i can name a few M : feel free lol L : i think the toughest battles ive had hands down by these newer members like, tido, or even more recently kain. the knights put up insane duels as well or jedi trainers such as gradius or even 3th and even the students M : Beating Grad's like headbutting an oncoming train L : you bet, and that train is on a one way trip to whoop that a@@ town lol hard to avoid it lemme tell ya M : lmao So, are you going to be a little more active now-a-days? L : i try to be. but, theres always that stern reminder that our lives change...its just so hard to keep up i naturally did years ago..without a 2nd thought M : RL (tm) sneaks up on you until BLAM... your spam L : oh yeah so true M : Are you gonna join us sometime on the servers? L : i do occasionally M : shows how much i know! I've not been on too often myself L : lol i see i even try to visit the euro servers..not exactly the most pleasant experience while trying to duel, but its nice to see the other half of ja M : I believe i am that other half ^_^ L : lol M : England to be exact, but yeah.. that brings me on to this. Where abouts do you live? L : New york M : Coolies! Well, what do you think the future holds for the JA? L : the future..lol...man i wish i hadnt thrown out my magical ball M : lol... L : i can only hope the ja remains on a steady positive direction hehe M : Aye! I'm sure it will! Oh my god... a conversation that hasn't involved Virtues name yet... L : lol uh oh M : Well, ill not take up any more of your time! I'm sure theres loads more i could ask but its best to save some mystery for someone else!
