I just finished watching LOTR for the first time. I did the whole trilogy all at once. Words can't express the way I feel about it. The producers of the movie have done Tolkien a great honor with this production. I have never experienced anything like it.

Thats always been my problem with LOTR. When I was 12, I picked up the book "The Hobbit" from the school library and loved it. I read it 4 times. A friend saw me reading it on the bus and told me about LOTR and I picked that up from the library. Don't get me wrong, but LOTR was very boring to read for me. I have had it since then on my bookshelf for so many years, but I always get half way through book 1 and stop. In 1978, my cousin took me to see the cartoon movie and the story was interesting, but the cartoon was too kid-like. LOTR has come alive for me now and I understand what all the hub-bub has been about. I probably will never read it, so I am glad they did such an awesome job in this movie. What a spectacle it was!

Yes, I know what you mean with the books. Try to keep on reading, even force yourself if needed. It becomes very good after a while ...

If sword action is what you like, then a movie with such I shall tip just for a spite.
Checkout the Japanese film Gohatan Tabu.

Edit : Of course I shall make a classic tip aswell Kurosawa's : Yojimbo , Sanjuro.

It took great self control, but yes. My wife told me that they made them all right away so I told myself I would wait for them all to be out so I could watch it all at once. I made the right decision. I am just amazed by the whole thing. Seeing it all at once for the first time was quite a thing to experience.

Small correction. Couldn't resist, because it makes the sentence wrong :P

And yes, you're right, Ezekiel. It's a great movie, but I'm sure that the real Tolkien fans would be turning in their seat when they first saw it ...
But yes, those really are special battle scenes

Oh yeah, and if you listen closely, in the battle for Helm's Deep, when Legolas shoots the cable from the ladder, one of the Uruk-Hai says "WTF!!!" This made me laugh. :P

Aragorn - "The beacons are lit! Gondor calls for aid!"

King Theoden - "And Rohan will answer."
*Squints Eyes* "Muster the Rohirrim!"

As soon as he said that, I couldn't stop laughing. His expression and they way he said that was simply one of the greatest cliches of all time. I'm sill laughing thinking about it :P

Bail....look past the obvious descrepencies (go away if i spelt that wrong).
Think about it....in Tolkiens time there was less realism, more fantasy. People would say "How come 300 warriors of Rohan lasted a whole night against 10,000 Uruk-Hai" They would have died before Gandalf had even got to Eomer, and the uruks would be halfway to Gondor. There was barely enough Rohirrim to defend the keep, let alone the Deeping Wall. It took them 4-7yrs to make and a little deviation shouldn't spoil an epic trilogy. I see it for the sheer spectacle of the battles. Any way at least you enjoyed it:D
I think Viggo Mortensen's acting was superb, and commendations to every one involved in it.
Minas Tirith's battle and the Battle for Pelennor Fields was the best battle, bar none.

I agree
I'm a big fan of the books too (and not just LotR, but also The Silmarillion, left Tellings, etc ...)

Those are really great movies, even the stuff they wrote themselves somehow felt like they came right out of the books

Except for 1 meezly thing... THE ELVES AT HELMSDEEP.
When I saw this movie in the theatres, I litterally went: WTF?
That's the dumbest thing they could have done in my opinion
I know why they did it, I read the explanation, but I'm way not satisfied by it.

The performances done by Elijah Wood and Sean Austin are just plain f-ing great!
Elijah really played his part very well, and I commend him for it.
Sean really looked as if he meant every word of the 'Do you remember the Shire, Mister Frodo' speech.
It was great
