The Fall Open - Double Elimination/2 Bracket Tourney | |
Tido - Student ![]() |
*name edited ![]() For the end of this month, we will be having a small double elimination tournament. There will be 2 events: Full Force and No Force. The NF and FF events are two seperate divisions. Registration Registration for this tournament ends on Saturday October 23rd at 11:59PM GMT. No more applicants will be accepted after this date. To register please leave a comment with what type of dueling you'd like to participate in (FF, NF, or both). Rounds: Each participant will be paired up with another randomly and the first round will be announced on Sunday October 24th at 5AM GMT. After the match list is announced, the participants will have until the end of Tuesday October 26th to complete their matches and post the results. The next rounds will be posted after that and completion dates will be determind at that time. The Matches: Each match between participants will be a best out of 5. NF matches will be fought in usual duels and FF matches will use the amffduelchallenge system. For FF all force powers are acceptable. If the two participants cannot get together to fight their matches, the winner will be decided by a coin toss. If the results of your matches must be decided by a coin flip more than once, you are automatically eliminated from the tournament. When the match is completed, the loser must come to this thread and post the results. Double Elimination/2 Bracket: In double elimination tournaments a single defeat does not preclude the player from winning. After the 1st round, the players are subdivided into two brackets: the winners of the 1st round play in the Winners Bracket while the losers of ther 1st round go to Losers Bracket. In every round, the losers in the Winners Bracket step down to play in the Losers Bracket. Also at every round, the losers in the Losers Bracket are eliminated from the tournament, while the winners are paired with each other for the next round. At the very last final round, the winner of the Winners Bracket fights with the winner of the Losers Bracket for the championship. The final match cannot be decided by a coin toss. ----------------------------------------------- Participants No Force ============ | Winner's Bracket | ============ Sauce (5-0) =========== | Loser's Bracket | =========== illian D'kana (5-1) Sfire (4-1) Eliminated/Withdrawn 3th (3-2, E) Carda Jowol (4-2, E) Italian Ice (0-1, W) MonkaiMan (0-1, W) Bail Hope Belouve (0-2, E) D@mned (1-2, E) Darkwood (0-2, E) Delta (2-2, E) Devlin (0-2, E) Gradius (1-2, E) Jacen Aratan (1-2, E) JaikoD'Kana (4-2, E) Jaquen (0-2, E) JavaGuy (1-2, E) Jedi_Pimp (2-2, E) Koushka (2-1, E) Lancer007 (4-2, E) Mace Window Kenobi (1-1, W) Majno (1-2, E) Masta (3-2, E) ozzcoz (0-2, E) Quiet Guardian (2-2, E) PlooKoon (3-2, E) Roan Belouve (2-2, E) Setementor (1-2, E) Squibit (0-2, E) Scythus (2-1, E) Tido Kenobi (1-2, E) ################################################## Full Force Congrats to Gradius for being our Full Force Champion!!! Oh, and by the way, I'll be out of town from Thursday morning to Sunday evening, euro time, so Tido, you can already count me as forfeiting for the next round. I hope I can make it to the one after that, but if I do not, consider it as a second forfeit. _______________ "only two things are infinite: Human stupidity and the universe. Round 2 ends at the end of Thursday, October 28th - sorry for the short timeframe, but time is not with us and we'll be ending past October 31st as it is ![]() Round 2 Lineup ################################################# No Force - Winner's Bracket Quiet Guardian vs D@mned JaikoD'Kana vs Masta Roan Belouve vs Lancer007 PlooKoon vs Setementor Carda Jowol vs Mace Window Kenobi Gradius vs Sauce Delta vs JavaGuy Sfire vs Tido --------------------------------------------- No Force - Loser's Bracket MonkaiMan vs Jacen Aratan Majno vs Bail Hope Belouve Darkwood vs Scythus illianD'kana vs Squibit Koushka vs Jaquen Devlin vs 3th Jedi_Pimp vs ozzcoz Italian Ice gets mercy this round because of the odd # of people in the bracket. ################################################ Full Force - Winner's Bracket Carda vs Mace Window Kenobi Janus vs Thomas Skywalker Gradius vs Darkwood ------------------------------------------------- Full Force - Loser's Bracker ozzcoz vs Jedi_Pimp D@rthm@ul vs 3th Quiet Guardian vs Squibit Inter-Bracket Match Koushka (1,0) vs Setementor (0,1) After this round, at least 11 people will be eliminated from the tournament from 2 losses. For those of you in the winner's bracket, work hard to stay in there. For those of you in the loser's bracket, you have an uphill road to climb, and you cannot stumble. Fight hard everyone and keep it respectful ![]() Good Luck! This comment was edited by Tido on Oct 29 2004 09:27pm. |

Peter and Paul are slated to fight. Peter figures he has about a 15% chance of winning if he fights, a 50% chance of winning the toss, and so doesn't show. The coin is tossed, and Paul wins anyway. Next match Paul is faced with another opponent who won his first match but doesn't want to face Paul and so goes with the coin toss. But this is Paul's second missed match, so he's outta there! So arguably this system actually prevents the most skilled from reaching the top tier. Quote: I find it very difficult to believe that you'll have someone completely disapear on you twice. Oh I can believe it can happen twice, and for the reasons I outline above I think it's most likely to happen to the best players. Still, give the JA community a little credit. I think most people here are honorable and would rather lose fair and square. Tido's right: There's no possible way to make everything go right. He has found an imperfect solution for an imperfect world. I can live with it. So how'd my coin toss go? ![]() _______________ My signature is only one line. You're welcome. Angel if I've learned anything about doing tourney's in this short experiance, it's that it will never go perfectly. There will always be extenuating circumstances. I think you're absolutely correct in your opinion, but I can't find a perfect solution. It has to be a matter of compromise. However, this way I can ensure that people who are 'inactive' get filtered out and also prevent someone from using the coin toss to their advantage (example: Player A knows he will lose to Player B, so instead of fighting him he takes the 50/50 chance with a coin flip). This way if you truely cannot make a match happen, it's ok and you'll have the benefit of a coin toss to move things along. But if you cannot make a match happen twice...well...then you probably shouldn't be in the tourney. The bad side of this is where on your second coin toss you're opponent goes AWOL and now you have to suffer for it. Well, that is exactly what will happen. What I suggest is that participants try their very best to prevent this from happening. We have multible ways to contact people here (e-mail, profiles, instant messengers) that I find it very difficult to believe that you'll have someone completely disapear on you twice. If you cannot make a match happen twice, I'm not going to punish the rest of the participants on your inconvience. And I also want to point out that if you know that you're the reason the match isn't going to happen, please forfeit the match - it's the honorable thing to do. The whole point of it all though is to discourage coin tosses and motivate people to not settle for them. Also please understand that I am under some time constraints here as I have to finish this up quicky before November events begin. So it is important that things move along and the whole show isn't getting held up by any individual. This comment was edited by Tido on Oct 27 2004 05:44am. |
