The community has really fallen victim to mods like JA+. This, unfortunatly, has given a terrible name to staff. The reason is this. In JA+, it is incrediably easy to spam any saber and winz0rz with sweeps and whatnot. Staff happens to be the easiest to spam. Because of this, most people fall victim to this type of fighting and start spamming away. This gives a bad name to all staffers because most automatically think "oh great, another noobstick user". I wish to change this. Ever since the launch of jedi academy, I have gone to people and train them individually. However, I have gotten so many people asking for my training (I currently have 200 students on my list now)...I decided to make a website with the BASICS of my style. This style is to show everyone that there is indeed more to staff than spam. This has been around for awhile, but I figured I would join the academy and show it to you all here. http://www.jaguarfx.net/hotrod/jka/index.htm If any of you wish, I can train personally one on one as long as I have time. However, I do have 3 jobs plus college and sometimes my free time is tight. I am a school teacher during the morning, I run a pool cleaning business during the day, and I work for gamespy as an anti-hack team member during the night. I also moderate LucasForums under the handle " RpTheHotrod ". I was also in charge of working on the final JKA patch with a small gamespy coding team. It would hopefully get supported by LucasArts/Raven and become the official final patch. This would fix many exploits and at last make a good combat AND admin system that would eliminate the need for such awful mods like JA+. Unfortunatly, my main coder has become quite dishearted at the jka community...and I am unsure if the final patch will be completed. It would also affect the community as a whole. So many people depend on sweep 1 hit spam kills...that the patch may eliminate nearly the entire player base except for those who have learned to fight without yaw exploits. Yes, this would be good to have real players...but also would eliminate many servers and players, as well. Again, more than likely, this patch will not make it out due to my team losing faith in the community, and the affect it could have on the community. If anyone wishes to contact me, you may. Whats funny about JA+ is, there is actually a setting that lets you make the combat exactly like default JA, it's just that no one uses it. Here's a video I put together not too long ago. My first video, actually. The gameplay duels suck because I was literally getting 5 FPS a second during the duels...because I was using fraps. Yes i completly agree with you that JA+ is an awful mod...its just sad that so many admins use it. Im personally playing only very very rarely on JA+ servers and dont think too bad things about the staff...i think its true that most new players choose either the staff or duals as their first saber because there are ways of fighting with these which dont require much skill (like BF spamming etc.) Of course there are ways of fighting with single saber which dont require much skill also (IE wiggling, spinning, swaying etc.) Some months ago...ive been hoping that there would be an official 1.02 patch released someday...but after the announcement that raven never planned to code such a patch, i gave up hope that all those exploits would ever be fixed... Now im reading that a small team has been working on an unofficial patch? Well...i dont think you guys should even start working on such a big thing... Just imagine you wouldve completed this patch but lucasarts wouldnt give a damn about your work and you had to release it "unofficially" Im sure some people would like and appretiate that patch...but im very sure that the biggest part of the community would be like > 'WTF?! WHAT IS THIS??!! SPIN DOESNT INSTAKILL ANYMORE!!!!!!!!11 OMG THIS PATCH IS **** IMMA TELL IT TO ALL MY LEET FRIENDS SO THAT IT MAY NEVER BE USED ANYWHERE!!' Most people just wouldnt like to have their winning-moves simply ripped off the game... BUT if the patch would be released officially...then it would change the whole situation. Many many people would quit the game because they wouldnt stand not using those exploits anymore...but they would be unable to refuse the official patch because its an official patch...released by the developers of the game to make the game like it SHOULD be. Anyway...ive accepted the fact that there are really big flaws in this game which wont ever be completly fixed. A shame... Nevertheless...im enjoying this game as much as i can =) Even if its partially bugged Oh and its great to hear that there are people like you out there who go around and teach people how to fight with SKILL...not with exploits. Yes. I just go around teaching now, pretty much. I used to do tournaments and whatnot (even got into the top 20 best players worldwide, yay)...but it just takes so much out of ya....bleh. I just wander from server to server now helping out different people. |

Wow man, great work, I'm impressed. That's yet another score for the staffers! As far as teaching goes, students are allowed to hold unofficial classes. Basically what you do is, you can either make a forum post about it, or you can simply make an announcement on the servers. But I must warn you, no everyone will take this seriously. Most students prefer official classes taught by JAKs, JATs, and JACs. So if you plan on announcing that you wish to hold a class, be prepared to be denied as a worse case scenario. But other than that, I think you have a great amount of skill (since I dueled you a few times tonight I was able to observe this) and that you have a good amount to offer to the JA staffers _______________ - Proud padawan of Kueller. - We really are at the beginning of it all.
