negative buying advice Microsoft Digital Media Pro Keyboard

Ok,

I bought a new keyboard a few days ago,
it's a Microsoft Digital Media Pro Keyboard, it is all good concerning Windows, but I can't use it for gaming, it does not support all key-combinations, for instance I can't strafe left+back+jump, the jump just wont respond, this and a few other combinations don't work. As you can imagine, this is very frustrating, so I rigged up my old keyboard again...
just a word of warning

With Kind Regards,

Henkes

Ok, nice update bump...

I am currently using my M$ keyboard because my old one now totally died on me (thank you sibblings with your soda's )

Well, thanks to Squibit i had a new hope, so i decided to move my config 3 keys to the right, which functions good, had to get used to the key-allignment for a frew days, but after that it was all good, so I now use: rdfg instead of wasd

I had/have this problem , but i use a laptop so i figured it was just because of that.

I also could not do back + left + jump

Solution

Shifted all keys 1 to the right. It now works fine. For me it was specific combos not just the number of keys.

AS and space = no good
SD and space = perfect back-left jumping :)

i would recommend:
1) cheap £5 thing with nice clicky keys (spills dont matter so much :))
2)Logitech Keyboard Elite Black
3) the saitewk board http://shop.store.yahoo.com/saitekusa/pcgake1.html
4) read this keyboard article from toms hardware [url]http://www.tomshardware.com/game/200407311/[url]

BUT most of all, find something youre comfortable with. make shape, looks are all irrelevent. if you like it, can can use it for long periods with no discomfort, its the right keyboard. the FEEL of it is the most important thing

Hope that helps:)

I'd suggest the Logitech Ultra X
I don't know if it's still on the market
it's a NO-crap good and solid keyboard

I hear rumours it's only available as OEM so it might be tough getting it....

As a alternative you could go with a logitech internet navigator2, I get good reviews of that one...

tru, but some companies are making the shift. and most competent linux users will have no probs dealing with windows, especially if you grew up with old linux versions. remember slackware? pre 1996 or something? those were the days :)

Ah Well, Microsoft is not my favorite, I AM a linux man, but most companies run M$ XP/2000/2003
so for me to get a job later on, I HAVE to know those too...

remember the golden rule of computing. avoid the big M$ at all costs unless absolutely necessary. liek for windows. in all other situations other alternatives are usually better and cheaper. for branded mice and keyboaards, logitech :)

Hmm,

Well, it's not the software part that is screwed, but the Hardware part, you cant press more then 2 keys that are configured in a row, for example "qwsdcv", see the row there?
Well those keys are not gonna work when pressed together, response from Microsoft:

This is a flaw by design, please note that we will test all future keyboards on multiple key combinations

GRMBLS! That doesn't help me now does it?

Well

i beileve thats a feature to stop the keyboard from locking up whan too many keys are presses at once. by letting only several regsiter at a tyme it can solve the problem. i use a cheao £5 keyboard with no extra buttons and no fancy features, it works for several years now surviving several coffee spills and biscuit crumbs. id recommend a cheap generic keyboard, in beige :D

THAT WOULD EXPLAIN A FEW THINGS, like me not being able to do certain combo's

I always thought it was just me, but now... I'm gonna try my other keyboard soon... as soon as I get all the cookie parts out :P

That's so crappy. You should be able to have infinite key combos!!!
