Need a little npc help please... | |

Ok, so here's the story... I've been struggling for a week to figure out a good way to film demos etc.. and I think I've gathered enough information about the process from the web, and helpful people here (Acey - thx), to put something cool together. So.. I spawned a couple of npcs and i did d_npcfreeze 1 , and nothing happens. So I try control [npc name] and still nothing. "So," says I, "I'll remove all the d/l'd pk3's" Which I do, to no avail. "So," says I, "I'll reinstall clean" Which I do, and then I find I can't even SPAWN anymore. I've tried \npc spawn [name] , and I've tried \npc [name] , and I've even tried \npc givemeadamnnpcyoucrappycomputer! , and nothing happens. Does anyone have any ideas on what going on with the game? (btw, I've removed all the external .pk3's and Im only using the jka 1.01 patch.) Thanks, -T |

I think I know what your problem might be. If you're spawning them in single player then I'm right. You've been putting a / at the beginning of the command, if you get rid of that it should be fine. |

I really really hate this game. I've checked every resource available, and everywhere I look (including here, thank you folks ) I'm told use "setforceall" and use "control [npc]" etc etc... But when I enter these commands into the console I get a "Unknown cmd setforceall". Now, I know these commands exits, so why not on my compy? Is this a result of the 1.01 patch maybe? -T |

well, you could enable cheats, use mindtrick level 4 and use that to control the NPCs manually, if that is whan you want. open the console to enable cheats use devmapall then setForceAll 4 _______________ Joined 16 October 2004 | Retired 10 April 2005 | Returned 05 June 2008 | Made Staff 27 June 2008 | Made Council 18 January 2009 Padawan To Odan-Wei Belouve | Adopted into the Belouve family | Twin to xAnAtOs | Owner of the 4th Quesi sexy badge Brother To Roan Belouve, Nomad, Majno, Silkmonkey, Kensei and Jarhok Belouve Owner Of Virtue's 1000th profile comment, Mr. Doobie's 1000th profile comment, Gradius' 2500th comment, xAnAtOs' 2500th comment, Rosered's 1500th comment, Laziana's 900th comment, Scythus' 500th comment and Echuu's 100th comment |

Wheeee! I figured out half of my problem!! I can now spawn npc's again!! What I did is backup my jampconfig.cfg file into another directory and then erase that file in the /base directory of JA (this file doesn't get erased in a re-install if you opt to keep you settings and save games). Upon restarting JA I could spawn npc's again! So, I then exited, and viewed the NEW jampconfig.cfg file and compared it to my old backed up one. There was a few extra npc related settings in my old .cfg which were not found in the new file. So, I deleted the entries in my old .cfg and put it back in my base JA directory. And now I CAN SPAWN!! (and manged to keep my old settings to boot!) Probably what has happened is that I screwed up something whilst trying to figure out the \control npc command a little while back. This is all great, but now I'm back to where I started, which is half way to where I want to be... I can't \control my npcs. Oh well.. I'll keep trying This comment was edited by Trelane on Dec 03 2004 04:34pm. |

Are you using the right names? If you want to spawn like a vehicle, you'll have to do "/npc spawn vehicle <vehicle>" If a reborn NPC for example, it would be "/npc spawn reborn" Hope that helps. |

Quote: Well, for starters, you're using the wrong slash. it's /npc spawn, not \npc spawn. Actually, if you use "/", the game automatically changes it to "\". |

Yeah, I've done that. It's kind of crazy because before re-installing I could spawn npc's and stuff, but I couldnt \control [npc] (which is why I reinstalled). Oddly, most of the other cheats work fine, except (it seems) those related to npcs... |
