JK3 keeps crashing...

I'm not really sure if this is in the right forum, but i didn't know if it belonged in the editing forum either. For some unknown reason whenever I start playing jk3 I'll get a few minutes of play time and then my system will crash. Sometimes it will just close out and return me to windows, and sometimes it just completely restarts my computer.

I just got a new mobo and processor so I'm guessing that has to be the cause, since I never had any problems up until now. Sadly I don't know enough about computers to even guess at the cause. If anyone could give me some advice as to what might be going wrong I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks :)

:empire:Here are you options

1.) Download the Jedi Academy patch, if you havent already but I assume you have.
2.) Make sure your DirectX is up to date.
3.) Keep your windows up to date
4.) Update your video card drivers
5.) Uninstall and reinstall your JA
6.) If all else fails you might need either a better pc or better video card....or there could be a hardware conflict causing your problem.:empire:

just a shot in the dark, do mobo's with nvidia chipsets have compatibility issues with ATI video cards?

I can say with confidence no to that ;) Te only things i would suggest, but think has already been said, is update the video card drivers and your version of directX. The lastest version is 9.0c.

Bah! I can't find out what the problem is. For some reason my system crashes every time i try to play any video game at all.

For those out there that are more computer savy than me, this is what my system is running:
DFI NFII Ultra AL motherboard
AMD 3000+ cpu
1 Gig RAM
Radeon 9600xt

just a shot in the dark, do mobo's with nvidia chipsets have compatibility issues with ATI video cards?

Well, I found out that's it's definetly a video issue. So now I just gotta find out what the right settings are. It'll only be a matter of time before I get things up and running again. Thanks for all the help :D

I would suppose 2 things from my past experience...

1) You said that you bought a new mobo and a cpu chip yes?Nothing new besides that?
Did you assembled the pieces yourself or did you let someone else do it?Did you bought the mobo and the cpu yourself? (did youve chosen it yourself?)
To be honest...i had a similiar problem. My comp suddenly got frozen when he had to perform some work...(he didnt froze when he was idling). The cause was ultimately my mobo which was just..."a bad choice for this type of cpu" (which i completly disagreed of course because that mobo met all the requirements my cpu had)
Oh well...ive drastically underclocked my cpu (from 3.0ghz to 1.2ghz) and it went...perfect.I just got a very very big performance loss...
After that...ive decided to buy a new mobo and check it out on it.Guess what?It worked flawlessly with the full cpu speed...
So that may be your problem...

2)Update your gfx card drivers and download directx 9.0c.

Take Care and good luck ^^

yeah, i've got all my drivers updated and i can't do a system restore because I reformated my hard drive, basically i'm starting over with a brand new computer. I've been google'ing the problem and it may have something to do with my graphic settings so I'm gonna try messing with those to see if that fixes it, but so far I haven't gotten it to work yet :(

Well, this should go in the Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy forum, but I'm not gonna get on you about it.

Um, well, I'm not entirely sure what to do in that case. Have you tried reinstalling? And have you updated all of your drivers? (Not sure if that has much to do with it, but just a thought.) And if worse comes to worse, have you tried doing a system restore?
