I know the movies are official, but when you've read all this cool backstory about Boba Fett, and then out comes Ep2 with cute little Boba the sheltered, loving daddy's boy...ruins alot of that aura of coolness and mystery that Boba Fett had. I'm not talking genetics here. Genes don't make the mandalorian. It's not a family or a bloodline. It's an army (many armies even) of the most elite mercenaries in the galaxy. Jango wasn't descended from a Mandalorian warrior himself. But he is referred to in a number of comics (yeh ok, comics aren't nesassarily lore) as the Greatest Mandalorian, at least of their final era. As for the clone army. Yes, they are trained under Jango Fett, so they have recieved Mandalorian training. However, their armor and equipment isn't quite the same. Also, they are created for the exclusive use of the Republic, and hence are not mercenaries. Personally, I feel the clones are not Mandalorians, though they do take some qualities from them. They are more closely tied to the Stormtroopers from the Imperial era. Stormtroopers are clumsy and foolish. They frequently make mistakes, and don't always have a combat orientated mindset. For sure, not all, maybe not even any of the Stormtroopers were in fact clones. However the clones were modified to grow and learn faster, and this would explain why they were of a lower quality than the Mandalorians. So to sum up: Mandalorians are cool.
