That's too bad. If you want to give it another try, add me to MSN and I can walk you through getting a decent gaming setup going.

Cedega free of charge? I doubt it, and if it's true, then it's a bad idea, not to mention immoral. Also, it's more likely to be an older version. Cedega <4.0 has problems with JKA, CD checks in particular. The newest version does the CD check properly on my machine. And FiZZe is a lazy n00b, because JK2 doesn't even have copy protection. :P

FiZZe: the same thing I have to tell everyone. Plenty of Windows games use OpenGL for graphics, yes. That doesn't change that they use DirectSound for sound (OK, JKA uses a port of OpenAL), DirectInput for input, and DirectPlay for networking (not in the case of Q3 games). Decent DirectX support is still a necessity.

'grats :)

just check out wether Xorg or Xfree servers support ur gfx card, and use that one, then.
also check out your gfx drivers, if there aint binary drivers for your card, there might most possibly be DRI drivers available.
like I said, my old radeon can sport JK2 in linux fine. without cadega.

I have been doing a little research. At present I am running Mandrake 10. I have found that there is openGL support as well as a few sites to down load cadega f.o.c. I am using grub(lilo caused a lot of prob.) and after re configuring my xf86 config file i got my x window system to work

100% correct, lucky enough that JK games run on opengl, which is just nice, in linux.

trust me, the only thing keeping the game from running nice is the sissy CD-check, and some whacky X-server settings, probably.

The newest version of Cedega runs JKA with no problems except a few pixelly sprites. CD checks and everything are working fine for me. Wine as far as I know doesn't have the level of DirectX support required.

If you don't want to pay for Cedega, I recommend dual-booting between a small (say 30GB) Windows partition and Linux with GRUB (far better than LiLo). And the best Linux distro for every one from n00bs to power users is definitely Gentoo.

If you a new to Linux and you wanna try it, this would be my suggestion.

1.) I assume your cmputer already runs windows

Buy another HD. I mean really how much can a 20GB HD cost (can you even buy those retail anymore)

Use the bios to switch to booting from that hard drive. Install Linux play around, when you are done, switch back using the bios.

You can then use Lilo to choose which disk to boot off. Default to Windows.

This way your two OS are seperate of each other, and you wont mess up your windwos drive

yeah, and if u set it to 0 the monu wont be noticed by anyone.
but if u press a key before it comes up, u can actually go to linux.
easy game.

well, JA doesnt really run in Linux. You need a no-cd-patch, because the CD-check stuff wont work.
I myself am able to play JK2 quite nice, just some really small flaws. but then, I dont use cadega.

mandrake is nice :D  :)
