Combat Dummies? | |
YubYub - Student |
I mentioned this to someone on the server earlier, i am sorry but i forget the name. I think it was Tidos padawan perhaps? Anyway. I think having a room with combat dummies woudl be good. When i log on the server i often find it empty so the only thing i can do is fight the bots. fun but they are quite hard and i am not very good. So, how about a room with people sized static targets? Static bots if possible put just small pillars of wood or stone would be as good. Since these dont move they could help players practice combos while hitting a specific spot, hlep them with timings and distances for jumping attacks etc. Ideally these targets would show how much damage you are doing with each swing so new students can learn when the best time is to land a hit in a combo or spin. Just an idea and i realise that much of it may be impossible to do. But i certainly think it would help me as well as many other students of academy. NOTE: come to think of it, if the room was big enough there could even be targets that move in a set pattern as if on tracks. This could also help people practice attacks on a moving target while not constantly dying. This post was edited by Orion on Jan 31 2005 05:23pm. |

Yub Yub has a good point though - I also find the bots a bit of a challenge on bad days or when I'm tired. It would be nice to have a wider range of spawners (maybe a total of 5?), ranging from pure "meat" bots with level 1 sabery, jump and push and not much else, to truly difficult bots like the ones there now. _______________ Saving the world, one kilobyte at a time. |

There usually isn't many people to practice with in there and it could really help people learn to lead their targets. _______________ "You want eternal rest? Another thing: Try dueling with MP damages. Basejka is good for quick reflexes, but playing with jk2 damage helps develop timing and thinking. Incorporate both, and you can have a huge advantage in duels. _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." |

Thansk for the input and replies guys. The moving targets thign was more an afterthought than anythign else really. I just think i need sometign to help me practice when there is no-one else on the server. I also agree about duelling people better than you, whihc is most people to me. I am gettign better though. I went on an public FFA server yesterday and ruled! Plus i beat Luke Skywalker on the academt sever the other day.....although i don't think he was playign quite like his usual self. |

And don't just duel them once. Duel them again and again until you develop your skill to their level. I found that the harder the opponents I fought, the faster I got better. Well, it's a good idea except for 2 things. First, we have a room that allows you to pratice combos on stationary targets. You've seen this room, and heard of it, but probably aren't sure of what it does. It's the Combo Room, the room in between the NPC Complex and the elevator to the Great Hall. The circles on each pad are there to resemble targets, and help you with your aim and combo effectiveness. They don't however tell you how much damage you've done. And another "downside" to them is you have to be facing down in order to see what you're hitting. Second, the idea with bots that only move in certain patterns. Well, this may seem like a good idea to start out with, but it won't really help you too much. One thing that you can always count on in a good duelist is their unpredictable and unconstant movement. Having bots that use the same pattern everytime will only trick you when you finally go to duel. At most, they would only be good for aiming your swings, and maybe a bit of timing as well. But for the most part they would throw you off in a duel because you'd expect the same pattern out of everyone. And yes, there are those who do everything exactly the same and are predictable, which is why they are the quickest to die and run into high damage attacks. But the best thing to do to train against those who you may consider unbeatable, is to duel them whenever you get the chance. Try to figure out their weaknesses, and work them into it. Set them up into a trap that they don't expect then let them have it. Sorry, wasn't trying to crush your hopes or anything. I think it's a fine idea, and I'm glad that you're able to use your head to think of better ways to train. Nothing makes us happier. But I don't see it working out for the best, at least the part with the bots. Perhaps the poles and whatnot to help you better you aim and better your combos would work best. _______________ - Proud padawan of Kueller. - We really are at the beginning of it all. But im sure it would be quite fun to let a bot tell you how much dmg uve done after each hit. _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here!
