Just curious, but I havent played this game in a long time. I played awhile when it first came out. But I dont remember damage being so random. Let me explain. Lately Ive experience and seen alot of duels that just dont make sense. For instance Player A will hit Player B with about 5 Red swings. Then Player B will land 1 or 2 yellow hits. Player A dies instantly and the results show Player B still had 100hp and some odd shields. I see this almost every duel. Has JA always been so random in duels? This is not a rant, please reframe from flaming me as Im sure most people will want to do. Im just wondering so I know whether to stop playing again. |

Yes, damage is random at times. It depends mostly on the mod though...randomness has been present from the beginning of jk3 and will prevail to the very end of jk3.There wont be a mod which wont have any randomness in it... Sete pointed it out a bit already...it depends on 2 things how much damage your saber does with every swing. Location and Speed. As you may have noticed, jk3 supports a location based damage system...that means, you will recieve less damage when getting hit in the leg then getting hit in the head. The second major factor is, as pointed out above, speed. The faster you swing that saber, the more damage will be dealt...that explains why people like poking/wiggling/spinning/swaying so much. So when you test the damages on our JA servers, then you most likely will come to different results then testing them on ja+ (eugh) or basejka. And again, JAR has lots of randomness in it too.It doesnt happen too often anymore, but it does happen for sure. _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! Well, It depends exactly where, the speed, and how much of the player you hit, etc. They do have limits on their damage, however. I'd suggest going to some Classes, where this is explained and demonstrated more. When you first played, most people probably wouldn't be too good at the game, but it could be the patch, or the most common mods servers currently use. Who knows... |

i think there are "issues" with our current settings that are contributing to the problem. they're being worked out at this very moment. fear not, the correct amout of randomness will return! _______________ this is the internet, be serious damn it! |

I know, the damages are nerfed in basejka... That's why a lot of people have switched to dueler's mod, MP dmg, japlus, or even x-mod. Personally, the basejka are more exciting, as the tide of the duel can be changed easily, but for dueling, I prefer MP dmg, as the dmgs are much more stable and consistent. An overhand slash will hurt more than a side slash, and it will actually kill you in the relatively same number of swings, i.e. 1-2 swings, tops, for a perfect hit. _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." |

See the whole problem is not just the amount of damage, but how random it is. I tried something with my friend today. He stood still, with saber down, and I took swings at him. We found some interesting results. 5 times it took only 1 red over head swing to kill him. However 4 times, it took 3, YES 3!!!! over head red swings to kill him. This just doesnt make any sense? Like wise we did this with yellow, and it seemed ok most of the time, however we did encounter a 1 hit yellow kill 3 times, and then the same move also taking 4-5 swings to kill. |

I know I will be slagged for this, but use MP damages. Although there are certain downfalls, at the very least, the damages are FAIR, where the red swings actually do damage... _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." |

its a fair point, damage and blocking has been changed and can be a little flaky, but JK3 has always had poor collision mechanics. _______________ Joined 16 October 2004 | Retired 10 April 2005 | Returned 05 June 2008 | Made Staff 27 June 2008 | Made Council 18 January 2009 Padawan To Odan-Wei Belouve | Adopted into the Belouve family | Twin to xAnAtOs | Owner of the 4th Quesi sexy badge Brother To Roan Belouve, Nomad, Majno, Silkmonkey, Kensei and Jarhok Belouve Owner Of Virtue's 1000th profile comment, Mr. Doobie's 1000th profile comment, Gradius' 2500th comment, xAnAtOs' 2500th comment, Rosered's 1500th comment, Laziana's 900th comment, Scythus' 500th comment and Echuu's 100th comment |
