Minimalist Saber Style | |

Has anyone ever seen a minimalist style effectively used? For example, as little movement as possible that would keep you alive and use of only a few basic slashes. The idea is one of constant readiness. At any given time you're facing your opponent and ready to strike at their weaknesses. Naturally this favors someone who's comfortable with close range fighting, high risk and high intensity battles using a quick saber form (like yellow or blue). It sounds risky, but whenever I've used something like it, I've lasted longer, despite being at risk of getting hit more often. Am I just getting lucky? I like the concept, but I'm worried that I may just be afraid (or too lazy) to learn all of the tricky moves and techniques available in JA. I'd like to think that one could be very successful without having to be an expert in every little movement. |

Like an angry snake? lol Waiting on one spot till the opponent comes close and tries to saber you...then striking him quickly and backing out, only to wait again on one spot just to saber him. It could be a very interesting way to fight imo...very stylish too.Havnt seen anyone primary focusing on fighting like that before tho...not sure if its working neither. Well ive kinda noticed a slight whisper of this form of sabering at different people. Leif for example (at least earlier)... Ive used to watch him fight whenever i could...and ive noticed that he sometimes just stood there for a second while in yellow stance...waiting for the opponent to strike. Then he just evaded the attack and countered with 2 scissors... He was using it very rarely too though...but it was kinda cool =) _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! Married to Kain. Well, I didn't mean just stand there waiting to get slaughtered. I mean only move when you're attacked and then only just enough to avoid the attack. There's a difference between moving as little as possible and not moving. |

That's exactly what I was thinking. Keep it simple and use good timing and positioning (when to swing and where to aim). Of course, it's easier to get smacked if your timing isn't so good than if you're big on moving around a lot. |

It is very possible to beat nearly everyone with only using 1 swing in any stance. You have to balance your predictablitiy and lack of flexibility with supreme timing and movement, though. Saber skills are more based on timing then on your choice of combos. It is far more difficult to beat someone with minimal movement and supreme combos then with supreme movement and 1 swing combos. Oh and there is a very big difference between beeing extremly defensive and using only 1 swing combos. _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! Oh, well, you don't have to know EVERYTHING to be successful, but as I believe, you'll need to know a lot. |
