I dont know if im in the right forums but, Virtue, i was wondering if you were working on a new academy map if so i have suggestions I won't get mad if not, i just got ideas from jo-dell and myself, so please postThanks |

Oh I also like the prison idea. A glass box to put bad people in  Break the rules, end up in the box. Going along those indicator lines, you could also put an indicator (if it works) on the NPC room? So when you approach the room you already know there is someone/something in there? I know nothing about mapping by the way (you probably guessed) but the amount of times I've run into the NPC room to be slashed in half by some staff wielding witch taking the p out of me  It would've been nice to know it was waiting for some poor innocent soul to fall into it's trap I'm gonna take the p a bit now. You Knights have a room that we students can't get into. It's perfect to get away and have a practice (or whatever) and not be shot, lamed, challenged, or harrassed in any way. Is it possible to have an area where you can lock the door, so you can practice undisturbed? Yeah, well, it's fine to say that most of these ideas probably won't be in the map, but they're good anyways. Keep 'em coming though, they'd be awesome for other, non-academy-like maps. |

It's a great idea, Jan, but the reason we have closed doors like that is to preserve precious FPS. Virtue makes heavy use of Area Portals to tell Q3 not to draw stuff that you can't see, but these only work when the doors between rooms are closed. These are all great ideas to some extent guys, but please think practically about them before posting. Stuff that isn't very likely to be considered for addition includes: - polygon-heavy stuff (FPS) - lots of big custom textures (download size) - stuff that would take significant effort to implement (Virtue does this in his spare time) - things that use NPCs (we all know how unstable the MP NPC code is) Simple mapping isn't that hard. If you have a really good idea, learn the basics of Radiant, make a little demo map that shows that your idea can be done without seriously compromising any of the above factors, and send it to Virtue or post it somewhere for him. How bout some dueling maps. Use locations from famous fights. Corran Horn Dueling the YV commander at Ithor. How about a spawning area for rancors and other large creatures? But the door will be too small so they can't escape. I love the swoops We should convert one of the servers that noone uses (ctf) and make it a games server so it won't lag out people in jk3home or wireplay _______________ Rawr.

The matrix rooms, Yes, well, how about another wee door, oh I don't know, maybee, like just over the coloured square outside each room, that only opens when someone is on the floor in that room (trigger area = whole floor) - how many times have people gone running into an empty room, or gone looking for an empty room? (can you tell I'm too lazy to spec where everyone is before joining?). Something else I'd been thinking of for a while, almost had it witht eh last droid room. Perhaps in the combo area, a small field of posts. straight up and down, nothing fancy, posts. What for? range/joust/rollstab/lunge target practice.
