My mostly useless advice: don't study at all. I personally never study, and i get fine grades. I suppose studying might bring a few grades up a few points, but eventually all the stress of it all will wear me down and the grades will drop again, perhaps to lower than they are now. See, instead of studying i learn the stuff when it's taught, and i know it when i'm tested on it. I do take notes, but mostly because teachers seem to think i'm not paying attention if i don't. I realise that my way doesn't work for some-- or even most-- people, but it works for me, and if studying doesn't seem to be working at all for you, perhaps you should try it too. It just requires a different mentality when listening in class. Edit: by 'fine' grades i do mean better than 'not failing', by the way :p I had a 3.59 GPA (out of 4.0, for those that don't know for whatever reason) last semester. _______________ Well then. Just so you know, just because I don't post often doesn't mean I don't lurk this place multiple times every day... This comment was edited by Trad Redav on Mar 13 2005 03:59am. |

I too have a great deal of bad luck. In fact my friends and room mates always joke about the supposed curse of bad luck that my apartment generates. You just gotta look past it all though. Just focus and put in everything you got. Life eventually balances itself out. _______________ "We keep odd hours...." ----------------------- They Live, We Sleep |

Agreed with Ash and Jacen. One thing that's definite is that each of us have our own way of learning, each and every one of us. Some people learn things better if its visual, or audio, or if they write it all down. Others just have photographic memories. I can't see how reviewing before sleep would do any good. You've gone to school, you've had a hard day, you went and played some basketball, you had lunch, you worked out, you had fun with your girlfriend, whatever. You are tired out and you need rest. How on earth are you supposed to absorb what you need to know in this state? I've always found it most beneficial to study in the mornings. My mind is fresh and its had a good rest. I've found i can absorb more that way, and it stays with me the whole day. Having said that, to each his own. If you do find that you learn more by studying before you go to sleep, do it! And yea, doing a bit of light exercise before the test helps too, aids your blood circulation and all. Lots of people make silly mistakes in tests, and only remember them afterwards.. it's pretty hard to guard yourself against, except by double checking. And that's pretty hard if it's oral. |

Be sure to take lots of notes. And organize your notes too. Most teachers have different ways of teaching so your notes might end up jumbled if you don't form your own pattern for note taking. I'm currently study for a test while I type this. I'm basically going through the notes my proffesor gave me, the notes I took, my old quizes, and the text book. But that all doesn't mean squat if I don't grasp the subject. Sometimes you just have to pound this info into your head. _______________ "We keep odd hours...." ----------------------- They Live, We Sleep |

Sorry but I have to disagree. Studying b4 u sleep might work for some ppl but I wasn't one of them. I struggled my 1st year thru HS when a tutor told me to take notes on everything. I did, and from there on went thru HS with a 3.0gpa and college with a 3.4 gpa. If I write something down I usually never forget it. TAKE NOTES! that way you can go thru and review everything in ur note book and refresh ur memory as you go. Did WONDERS for me. _______________ Brother to: Tamal, Kavar, J.D.,Jermia, Devlin, Ulic, Xiabara, Seij,Tarron Mib,>>>ROCK ON |

I have to agree with Leif, studying before sleep is good. Simply because when you sleep your mind is still active. And usually the last thing your mind is working on is what your mind goes over and over while you sleep. Also some physical exercise before your test is good for you too. It stimulates the mind. I think be cause the blood pumps faster when you exercise and the brain gets lots of fresh blood. I used to play chess a lot, and found I played 10 times better after some exercise, like football, running etc. Just my 2 cents worth. _______________ Geriatric single User, with a touch of Staff now and again. Quote: dont press yourself very hard! 2-3 hours of the same stuff everyday... for a week and youll know everything like your 5 fingers Exactly. That, and it's been proven that drinking a glass of juice (preferably orange juice) the morning of the test will help your brain remember certain things. Something in the vitamins I think. Also, way back when I actually used to study (yes, I actually used to go to school) I always tried to find a system of anograms or whatnot that would help me remember certain things. But, in my opinion, the best way is to steal a copy of the test beforehand and right down the answers on your palm. _______________ - Proud padawan of Kueller. - We really are at the beginning of it all. Review before you sleep, it was proven somewhere that if you memorize something before you sleep, you have a very good chance of storing it in your conscious for a long long time. |
