Any program that gives you the option to create/save as JPEG files, really. I used Photoshop.
EDIT: Actually, my sister and her boyfriend created the JPEG images, not me, lol. _______________ The name is Bond. James Bond. This comment was edited by Dash Starlight on Dec 06 2007 03:06pm. |

Quote: I have problems in one of the last steps. I cannot export my model to GLM. When I try to open MD3 wiev it just reports an error and closes. Is there any other way to create a glm?
MD3View is the best way. Try reinstalling it, then export the md3 again (as it may be corrupt) and make sure that your md3 is in the directory models/weapons2/saber_name/ next to its .skin file. I have read rumours of Blender and XSI do it, but I also read that the first had some trouble and XSI can't do player models. I have also come across an early beta of a GLM exporter, but it isn't reliable and was posted years ago. Quote: How do I prepare a skin for a multi piece hilt(like katarns)?
I have never done this myself, but I would think that all you need to do is one of either of the following: 1. Select one of the pieces of your hilt (not a tag), then UVW Map and Unwrap it. Repeat this process for all of the pieces of your hilt, then make a new texture (like this) for each of the pieces you have unwrapped and name them <pieceName>_w.jpg. Using this method, you will of course need to make a completely seperate skin for each hilt piece. When it comes to making the .skin file, add a new line similar to this for each individual hilt piece: <piece_name>,models/weapons2/saber_<name>/<pieceName>_w.jpg This way, they can each have their own texture image. 2. Select all of the pieces of your hilt (not including the tags), then UVW Map and Unwrap them together. When it comes to making the .skin file, add a new line similar to this for each individual hilt piece: <piece_name>,models/weapons2/saber_<name>/saber_w.jpg This way, they can each share the same texture image. The first option should work, the second one I'm not sure about and as for a third option, if it's possible to merge pieces together, you could do that as well. |

Also, I find it easier to make my saber hilt in a few different pieces. How do I prepare a skin for a multi piece hilt(like katarns)? This comment was edited by YOle on Sep 05 2007 12:49pm. |

That design looks doable using the techniques explained in the tutorial. You may need to experiment a bit with the options mentioned in the extruding step first, but once you know exactly what you can do with it, that design shouldn't be too difficult to construct. |

I use MSPaint.
It's nice, clean, and simple. |

Personally I used MSPaint for the template since I have literally no skill with PhotoShop. So yeah, any program that can make a .jpg is good as long as you can use it. _______________ Proud owner of Malak's 50th and special 300th, Alex D'Kana's 3600th and 4000th, Laziana's 200th and [Jawa][Obi-Wan][SW]'s 1300th comment. |

What type of Editing Program for the Saber Template works best? I'm trying to work from scratch, but is MSPaint a good choice? |
Pink_Mintaka - Student |
Open up your saber_w.jpg file in MSPaint and save it again as a .jpg
And that should be all there is to it. |

When I try to open the saber in md3 view I get an error message like; "JPEG read error: requested feature was omitted at compile time"

You will have to reset all of the UVW Unwrapping you may have done should you decide to do this, but if you return to the UVW Mapping stage (just select it) and reposition the square, you should eventually be able to see a lot more of the sides much more clearly. |

Looks to me like it is selecting the whole side, but the camera is just looking at it from the side as opposed to the front.
Suggestion: Try selecting a different side first, then work your way around to the side in the picture you provided. - Virtue. If i do that its still a single line for that side Can anyone still help me on this? |

Wow. I just read through the tutorial. Didn't know so much work is involved in doing this, and that there's no Mac client version of Gmax. Have to get a PC or an Intel Mac soon.
