Concerning the Hall of Fame cleanup... | |
Virtue - Jedi Council ![]() |
Hey guys. ![]() First of all, I'm not sure if you all know exactly why we removed certain people from the Hall of Fame, I'll try to explain as best I can to you now... Basically, the Hall of Fame is there for very special recognition to members of the Staff that truly made a difference and played a major part in making the Jedi Academy a great place over the years that it has been open. For a time, certain people believed that anyone who held a rank, whether it be JAK, JAT or JAC would automatically go into the Hall of Fame upon their retirement from the JA. Some of these people ended up being ranked themselvs, so this belief filtered downward through the JA. Over time, it got to the stage where JAK+ were retiring and then demanding that their account status be set to the Hall of Fame. Some of these people remained active in the JA, some didn't. Of course, the JAC are not blameless in this, as we are the ones who change people's accounts, I cannot give you the reasons that the JAC flagged people who were not deserved of the HoF, because I simply do not know. ![]() As stated above, the HoF is for very special recognition. Every JAK+ has a responsibility and a job to do, simply doing the job that they applied for and the job that was expected of them would not qualify an entry in the HoF. For a while, some of the current JAK+ (Before the Spring Cleanup) and the JAC were displeased with the HoF is it had literally gotten to the stage of "If they were a JAK+, then they were in the HoF". So we decided to clean it up a little. We of course knew that this may touch a nerve with one or two people but I assure you, there was absolutely no intended malice to the people who were removed. We very much appreciate the work done by all of our Staff. Please remember though, that the requirements of the JAK+ are very specific, simply keepng to the job requirements should be nothing out of the ordinary. The Hall of Fame cleanup was discussed in a JAC meeting that took place on Saturday 16th April. We went through the entire Hall of Fame and discussed each person who was on there, removing the ones who were not suited to what the Hall of Fame was always intended to be. Did you decide that you didn't like some of the HoFers and removed them? - Absolutely not! All we did was discuss their time at the JA and reach the conclusion of whether they did something very special that truly helped the JA leave it's mark, or those that simply did what they were supposed to do when they were ranked. So who is to blame for this? - I don't like playing the blame game. But if we had to reveal who was responsible for this little mixup, then we would have to point at ourselvs - the JAC. There are a few reasons; Some people asked/demanded to be on the HoF when they left, Some of the JAC may have unknowingly fell in with the idea that all Staff are HoF'ers, Some of the JAC probably just wanted to be nice, etc. Explain why you removed each, individual person! - Whoa - LoL. I kinda already have. If I did that, you'd just hear me repeat myself: "Member X was removed because although they were quite skilled with a Saber and/or were a good teacher - was not really famed for doing something remarkable at the JA, only the job that was required of them when they were ranked. Which we still very much appreciate nonetheless". What you would not hear me say though, is: "We decided this person was an a** and moved him off". ![]() But even so, don't the people who worked hard at their jobs at the JA in the past deserve some sort of recognition? - Absolutely! Read below. ![]() I hope this has cleared up some of your thoughts and feelings towards why exactly we did what we did with the Hall of Fame. We really didn't want to hurt anybody, but at the end of the day, we had to do it because the HoF wasn't what it was intended to be. Having said all this, I really do believe that if someone was good enough to hold a rank at the JA, then they deserve some form of recognition for their efforts spent towards helping the JA. So what we'll do, is put together an archive in the Holocron containing the names and former positions of everyone who was ever ranked at the JA (excluding those who had been demoted or banned). This will give the ex-Staff members the recognition for their efforts for their required jobs and hopefully strike a happy medium with those of you who didn't really agree with the HoF cleanup - Maybe call it "The Hall of Masters" or something to that effect. ![]() With that said, we'll need people to manage it, maintain it and of course, research and write it. So if you're interested, please let me know. All that I ask is that you be competent and that you have knowledge of at least some of the ex-JAK+, you would also have to be good at researching the people that you didn't know about and adding them, too. Of course, you would also need to be somewhat active to maintain the archive and update it when needed. You do not have to be ranked to be on this small team, Students will be accepted too. ![]() So, if anyone is interested, you can either reply here or E-Mail me. Hopefully, this solution will result in everyone being happy. ![]() Thank you all for reading. - Virtue. ![]() _______________ Academy Architect This post was edited by Virtue on Apr 21 2005 02:56am. |

Quote: I still don't completely understand what it is there for, and what the exact criteria are for entry. But that's more likely to be my ignorance than your oversight. ![]() Nah, not ignorance on your part. I suppose I wasn't actually clear on the exact criteria for a Hall of Fame entry. But it can be hard to be as there are more ways than one. I'll try to give a few examples now; =Derelict-Crusader=, AKA - "Dom" (JA Staff): Author of the jedi_academy v1-v4 maps for JK2. His maps are what gave the JA most of it's edge back in the old days as the atmosphere and feel to them just made you feel like a Jedi. His maps were widely loved by both the population of the JA, and most public Servers. The maps that he made helped generate alot of interest for the JA, people would flock here by the hundereds. ![]() aph3x (Jedi Knight): Both back in the days of JK2, and before and after the transition to JK3, Aphex was a very, very skilled player for both games. In JK3 he learned all Saber Stances/Types and would teach them all in Classes and anytime someone would ask, he really knew his stuff and was a great teacher. He was also a really nice guy who didn't even know the meaning of the word "ego". Aphex was the manager of the JA Aurochs and without him, the JAA wouldn't even be close to what it is today, after Aphex' departure to join the Army, he passed Aurochs management to Jaiko D'Kana, and from Jaiko, it then went to Janus, who is still the manager today. ![]() AvALON D`Kana (Jedi Trainer/Jedi Council): Avalon was one of the Academy's very first trainers and helped pave the way for the traditions that are still in place today. Avalon was one of the most skilled Jedi Trainers we had and it's because of people like him that the JA had such a big impact on the public. Not only was his gaming skill a force to be reckoned with, but his mentality was also something very special. These two combined is what earned Avalon a position on the Jedi Council, where he played a more direct role in the building of the Academy. These are just a few examples. All of the current HoF'ers have accomplished something along these lines, something that affected the JA in quite a large way for the better. I hope this helps give you a clearer view on just what the HoF is for. ![]() - Virtue. ![]() _______________ Academy Architect This comment was edited by Virtue on Apr 21 2005 05:09pm. |

I, personally, think that is an awesome idea. I mean, thats exactly what the holocron is supposed to be, an information resource. I have often wondered about these things in our history that simply are not well documented. And this also explains more about the Hall of Fame and what it represents. Although I still don't completely understand what it is there for, and what the exact criteria are for entry. But that's more likely to be my ignorance than your oversight. ![]() _______________ A wizard did it. This comment was edited by ozzcoz on Apr 21 2005 03:33pm. |
