Multiplayer Crashes | |

Hi guys, I'm having a problem with multiplayer - basically after a few minutes the machine locks up completely, the sound loops and the screen freezes. The only way out is a hard reboot. It only happens when there are other players or bots in the level. I've just re-installed windows and it's still crashing. Anybody else had a similar problem, and if so how did you fix it? _______________ "What do you mean we can stick it back on? It's his head for pity's sake!" |

overclocking may make a machine unstable, especially under heavy load. my advice is not to overclock it unless there is a real need to. most processors are designed to run at a certain speed, overclocking will shorten their lifespan. if you decide to overclock, do it properly. get a better fan and increase the clock rate GRADUALLY a tiny bit at a time, testing in between each run with something like sisoft sandra, something that will put your processor to the max. see the benefit and stability and repeat til you crash, then clock it down and leave it there _______________ Joined 16 October 2004 | Retired 10 April 2005 | Returned 05 June 2008 | Made Staff 27 June 2008 | Made Council 18 January 2009 Padawan To Odan-Wei Belouve | Adopted into the Belouve family | Twin to xAnAtOs | Owner of the 4th Quesi sexy badge Brother To Roan Belouve, Nomad, Majno, Silkmonkey, Kensei and Jarhok Belouve Owner Of Virtue's 1000th profile comment, Mr. Doobie's 1000th profile comment, Gradius' 2500th comment, xAnAtOs' 2500th comment, Rosered's 1500th comment, Laziana's 900th comment, Scythus' 500th comment and Echuu's 100th comment |

It SEEMS to be a lot more stable now that I have stopped overclocking the machine... I need to test it online to be sure... It's a hard life, eh? Next week's episode... Counter Strike! _______________ "What do you mean we can stick it back on? It's his head for pity's sake!" |

Try manually opening your CPU and checking if it's dirty. Occasionally, my CPU gets dusty on the inside, and it sometimes causes problems. If software doesn't show any problems, then try checking the hardware. _______________ "To become a greater man, you must be a lesser one first." |

I just did a little bit of research, and it seems overclocking can cause a lot of crashes. |

You'll laugh at me now I reckon... It appears that JA doesn't like it if you overclock your machine... Doh! _______________ "What do you mean we can stick it back on? It's his head for pity's sake!" |

sounds like the problems occurs when the cpu is under heavy load. The pc may well be overheating, otherwise download sisoft sandra and run the cpu burn in test and post the results. EDIT: almost forgot, after a crash and the hard reboot, take a peek into the bios and find out the cpu temp _______________ Joined 16 October 2004 | Retired 10 April 2005 | Returned 05 June 2008 | Made Staff 27 June 2008 | Made Council 18 January 2009 Padawan To Odan-Wei Belouve | Adopted into the Belouve family | Twin to xAnAtOs | Owner of the 4th Quesi sexy badge Brother To Roan Belouve, Nomad, Majno, Silkmonkey, Kensei and Jarhok Belouve Owner Of Virtue's 1000th profile comment, Mr. Doobie's 1000th profile comment, Gradius' 2500th comment, xAnAtOs' 2500th comment, Rosered's 1500th comment, Laziana's 900th comment, Scythus' 500th comment and Echuu's 100th comment This comment was edited by solitude on Apr 28 2005 11:27pm. |

Quote: i think mine is because it overheats...oh well should be fixed soon That could be your problem as well, Squirtbug. Although, the fact that it only happens when bots are spawned and whatnot makes me think otherwise. I'm stumpped to be honest. Check out LucasArts' troubleshooting page for the game, other people might have had the same problem. _______________ - Proud padawan of Kueller. - We really are at the beginning of it all. Currently there are no custom PK3 files in there, both Windows and the game itself are fresh installs (apart from up to date drivers). _______________ "What do you mean we can stick it back on? It's his head for pity's sake!" This comment was edited by Squirtbug on Apr 28 2005 10:20pm. |

Hmmm, I'm not sure what the problem would be. It does seem like a memory problem, but if your system was that low on memory windows would most likely crash as well, not just your game. It could be any custom .pk3 files you have in your base folder. Try taking those out and see what happens to it. _______________ - Proud padawan of Kueller. - We really are at the beginning of it all. This just started happening to me also and it doesn't matter which server I am on I haven't fingered it out yet any ideas? _______________ I have seen EP3 now I can die happy and complete. Happy Star Wars Completion day everyone!!!! |

Actually, it even occurs during "solo" games (not single player campaign)... But only if bots are present. I've tested it on empty servers over the net without problems, as well as solo games with no bots. It's run literally for hours like that, but as soon as bots or players turn up, I'm lucky to get more than ten minutes. Really, I suspect it may be a memory probloem or some such thing... Sadly, my diagnostics skills are stunted at best. _______________ "What do you mean we can stick it back on? It's his head for pity's sake!" |

It sounds like a serverside problem. The server is probably crashing on you, which makes your game crash. Does it happen on all servers or just specific ones? _______________ - Proud padawan of Kueller. - We really are at the beginning of it all.
