Help me please

I just joined, and was hoping to play online with oyu guys and learn more about sabers, but I can't connect to any servers. I've tried using the "connect IP" console command, the normal multiplayer game search screen (which, BTW, has nothing on it), I've even opened every port on my router (not sure if Norton is blocking, though). Can someone help me please, cause I really want to get on, but I can't. I have Norton Internet Securtiy 2005, Windows XP Pro, a LinkSys Wireless G Broadband Router, Adelphia Cable Internet, and JK3 V1.01 (with the Jedi Academy v2 map installed, among other mods). I've tried opening the router's ports, Microsoft Fiewall is off, but I haven't found Norton's blocking stuff yet. Can someone help, please?

You know, if you're behind a router, you don't really need a firewall, since they have them built in. I've been running Windows XP with absolutely no firewall or anti-virus since I got my router, and have yet to receive a single virus or hack.

Ah, thank you. I now have a ping of 22 (on average), and can get onto the JA servers (though that was cause I had forgotten the last character of the password :D ). I am getting mainly blue and green on those bars, with a little red and yellow every now and then, so I have a pretty good connection. I don't have any spyware (according to Microsoft AntiSpyware scanner, at 10:00 PM last night), so it was just my settings slowling things apparently.

do /cg_lagometer 1

"Enable this to enable the display of the "lagometer". The lagometer, is a small box that serves as a diagnostic utility.

This is essentially split into 2 sections – top & bottom. As regards the Top half – this displays information regarding world updates. Blue bars indicate world updates are being received & no frames dropped, whereas Yellow bars indicate such updates aren’t being received (Or are corrupt) & frames being dropped as a result. Ideally you’ll have Blues top section the vast majority of the time & if you get yellow a good deal you should consider changing Server. Information here should be used to adjust the snaps “x” option, described later.

As regards the Bottom half – this displays information as regards data packets received (Well, hopefully anyway). Green bars indicate data packets being received. Red bars indicate lost data packets, while Yellow indicates corrupt data packets being received (The net effect of red & yellow is the same however). Similar to the Top section, if you are receiving a good deal of red & yellow it would be a good idea to change Server. Information here should be used to adjust the rate “x” option, described later."

Nah, the /snaps won't do anything higher than what the server has them set to. But /snaps aren't even a big part of it really, they hardly change your ping. Cl_maxpackets and rate are the big ones.

as far as im aware, clientside /snaps are supposed to be higher than the server's /snaps

Set your cl_maxpackets to 15. Setting your snaps to 40 won't do any good on our servers, as they only max out at 30. Depending on what connection you're running on, set your rate higher or lower. For cable or better, set it to 25000, for DSL try 20000, anything less, try 10000-15000.

which server are you connecting to? you will have a much better ping on say, jk3home than wireplay for example.

set /snaps 40

timenudge does not actually reduce ping, just makes it feel as if ping is lower. in my experience this hurts more than helps.

check background processes for anything that may use up internet bandwidth, eg windows update, antivirus update, a browser hijack etc.

Now, if you guys can help me get my ping under 100 (preferably even lower), I could play here (I can connect to other servers, as long as the ping is above 110 or so). I've tried putting the maxpackets to 30, rate to 2500, but nothing works.

That did it. Thank you so much. [jumps up and down in joy]

Gradius, I've tried All Seeing Eye, but it doesn't install for some reason (maybe Norton, who knows), and I don't really care about playing on every server in existence ;) , so it's not that importnat to me.

TigerClaw, I had tried that, but it didn't help. Know that I can access servers, though, filtering is good.

I'd also suggest downloading All Seeing Eye. It's a 3rd party server browser, which shows alot more servers, and has better filtering options. :)

I don't know what exactly the problem is, but I will try this:

On the "join game" page, where all your servers should be listed, at the top/right is a box with various options. "Source, game, type" etc. Try altering the source to see if any other servers come up in the list. If they do, choose "Favourites" again, and click on "Get New List" If you've added any favourites yourself they should show up in the list. Also check the "Game" option is set to "All" and the "Type" option is set to "N/A" to get ALL types of servers listed. You could also double check the "View Full" and "View Empty" are set to "yes".

Does any of this help?

I know about the different servers, and am trying the JK3 ones. By nothing I mean that the list of servers stays blank, no matter what I do. There are absolutely no servers listed on there, and when I try to add a server to favorites by IP, it says (in the console) that my favorites are full, even though I've never added any (successfully).

Well, first thing is first, when you go to the server page to get the IP and password, which servers are you looking at? Anything starting with the prefix [JA] is for Jedi Outcast. Make sure you pick the one's starting with "jk3."

Also, you mentioned your Multiplayer screen has nothing on it? How do you mean?
